Professional Bed Bug Removal

We always recommend calling a professional vs. attempting to solve a bed bug problem yourself. Professionals have the experience, equipment and access to insecticides that aren't always as easily available to home owners. The biggest downside of hiring a bed bug exterminator is cost, which can include a charge for the inspection and a separate charge for treatment. Together this can cost $750 or more. For this reason we suggest:

Don't be shy about asking questions as they move through the home. Reputable contractors should be willing and able to explain to you what they're doing, why they're doing it and how they're going to treat your problem. Some also offer or refer dog services, employing specially trained dogs to sniff out evidence of bugs.

Be advised: Sprays merely kill the adult bed bugs which means the eggs that have already been laid will hatch into the same problem approximately one month later. This is why other exterminators will tell you it will take multiple treatments

I am wondering why you don’t have baby nymphs running around. So maybe you have a lone male biting you at night. If so, you are fortunate and as soon as you catch him your done. At least clear you bed as best you can and apply double stick tape(or mounting tape!) around the legs of the bed and any support blocks that you may have for your bed. Do not let comforters touch the carpet or wood floor. Pull your bed away from furniture and the walls. See if the bites stop. But make sure your bed is clear! You will have your answer.

Why Do Bed Bug Bites Spread

So, last weekend (1/7/11) I slept at a friends house where they previously dealt with bed bugs sometime time last year (beginning of summer I think). While I was over, there was a bug crawling up my blanket and I freaked out. My friend came over and pulled it off of me, squishing it, and didn’t really comment on it after that.

are bed bug bites dangerous

"We had an exterminator come in since that night. We have covered his mattress and box spring with those plastic mattress covers. As a precaution for everyone else in the home (we have five kids) we have covered all mattresses and box springs with the plastic mattress covers. This includes our eight-month-old baby's crib mattress."

Do I have bed bugs?? Did sprinkling the DE have anything to do with them biting me? I’m not sure what to do now!! I have looked in my bedframe to no avail, and there are no blood spots on my white sheets or my white t-shirt.

When people are bitten, they often do not notice at first. It’s a possibility that one reason could be that these blood sucking insects feed late in the night, before the breaking of dawn. Humans are often in a deep REM sleep during that time. Upon arising, individuals can find bite marks; however it can take up to ten days for adverse or allergic reactions to develop.

Just leave the electronics as they are unless you get instructions from the professional. As far as not finding a bug yet I would suggest you consider your box spring. I found they were camping out there at first and then migrated to my mattress later on. The first ones I found were inside the tufts and on the edge of the box spring screen located on the bottom. I found tiny clear eggs and a few bugs near them. The eggs are so small it is truly amazing. You will need a magnifying glass for sure. I had to use one.

Do not throw away a mattress or furniture and expect to be rid of the problem. They can live in many other places other than mattresses or furniture; it is likely that you will have disposed of valuable furniture and still have the problem. Treat the affected areas with steam cleaning, borax, and enzyme solution.

The bites on my arms and back are red and swollen with a scab in the middle. I have seen no “track marks” though. The ones on my back trickle down from the back of my head to my lower back. They all start kind of hive like and turn into scabs.

My friend at work just found out he has bed bugs! He’s been cleaning his whole apartment but now i just went to sleep, woke up with feeling of being so itchy and wondering if it is possible i have them now. I am so worried getting bed bug bites! How do u check when it’s dark? they hide w/ light on. Oh God i hope this isn’t happening to me! IDK if I have the patience for this.

Since my friend and I noticed our bites at the same time could it be that we were bitten in the rental apartment but they didn’t show up until days later? The reason I think this is because while we stayed in the rented apartment there were no signs at all of bites. My theory is the place had a few bugs and we were bitten over the course of 3 days staying there. And then a week later the bites began to show up. Is this far fetched??? It just seems weird that they would just start showing up.

Hopefully, I am just doing this as a precaution and there aren't any bugs that traveled home with me. I realize that if there are any bugs I will probably need professional help to deal with them and that I can probably kiss my mattress goodbye!"

Bed Bug Bites Cure

I have very sensitive skin so I wondered if I had cut myself shaving and irritated it somehow but thought I should write to be sure. I’ve attached a photo of the 3 vertical lines. They’re minuscule and right beside each other. I checked my mattress and bedding for signs of anything suspicious and found nothing but thought I’d write in anyway because the mere thought gives me the heebie jeebies and if there is any chance it’s bed bugs I will get a pro in here ASAP.

Can Bed Bug Bites Be Dangerous

Everything must be thoroughly cleaned with either borax, an enzyme cleaner, or a Comet-type cleaner. The best hope for getting rid of them through the first cleaning is to use a combination of the three. Do not buy and use strong pesticides; as aforementioned, they do not work and are hazardous to humans and other animals breathing in the fumes.

Correct, bed bugs don’t tend to bite in the day and prefer night. Have you gone through the bed bug checklist to make sure there are none hiding in places you might not have looked? Have you been bitten like this before? This is a LOT of bites for not having been bitten before. Have you stayed anywhere else in the last few days?

Can Bed Bug Bites Kill You

If the infested area includes other animals, check them as well. Because they feed on blood that is not specific to humans, it is possible that animals can be infested as well. It is also possible to smell them, as they emit a foul odor when frightened.

General Bed Bug Information

Professional Bed Bug Heat Treatment Cost

Hello. I live in the DC area and have gotten bites while sleeping in our bed 4 times since 9/24. The first two times were six days apart and were nearly a dozen bites on the underside of my upper right arm. Then 10/12, I got just two large bites on the back of my left thigh about an inch apart. This morning I woke up with a couple small bites on the bottom part of my pinky finger!

It is important to carefully bag or box all loose items when preparing for an extermination, as the bed bugs will attempt to hide in any available space. These items should be treated and/or inspected before placing them back in the rooms. All electronics and appliances will also need to be unplugged and moved away from the walls.

Bed bugs start off as tiny, milky eggs about the size of a period. These eggs hatch into tiny nymphs which must molt six times before reaching the adult stage. They must feed in order to prepare for each molting, and the shed exoskeletons are often one of the first signs of a bed bug issue. Female adults lay four to five eggs every day and can live up to nine months in warm conditions.

In the end, there is only so much that you can do to prevent them from getting into your home. While you want to do all of these things, you need to be sure that you have a tactic in mind that you can use if you do have an infestation.

Turn the heaters on the high setting and monitor the room’s temperature until it hits roughly 106 degrees. The kits include a handheld laser thermometer to help with this. Once the room temperature has reached about 106 degrees, place the included fans in the room to provide heat circulation. Point the fans at the most heavily infested areas and turn them on the high setting. This will accelerate the convection effect, allowing the overall temperature to rise over the lethal 121 degrees we’re shooting for.

However, a seven minute or longer exposure to temperatures of 115 degrees or 13 minutes at 26 degrees will kill a bedbug at any life stage. They are tolerant to low humidity, but cannot survive long periods of time exposed to high amounts of carbon dioxide.

does professional bed bug treatment work

The entire process will be broken down below, including what you need to do, how much it costs, and when you should use heat instead of a different method to eradicate them from your home. If they are making it so that your home is not the clean, relaxing place that it should be for you and your family, keep reading to learn how to get rid of them forever.

In addition, the upside to heat is also one of its greatest weaknesses. Heat is a one-shot treatment. For people for whom the process of being bait is difficult if not impossible to tolerate, one shot treatments like heat or Vikane can be very appealing.

Professional Bed Bug Treatment Options

This also works because the heat can move to every part of your home. Each room will grow hotter and hotter. The beds, sheets, mattresses, and linens will all get hot. The bugs will be found out and killed no matter where they are. Killing them with other methods means that you have to find them. You have to hunt them down and kill them where they are.

Professional Bed Bug Treatment Price

Our process includes a Pre heat check list which states the steps that need to be taken by the homeowner or manager, the cost of heat treating the dwelling, and explains our follow-up scan procedure. If you wish to proceed we require a signed contract of our agreement with you. Our cost for heat treatment averages $1.00 per sq. feet, cost going down when home is larger or going up to meet our minimum required. We require a signed contract and we guarantee the treatment to work or we will redo it until they are gone, at no additional cost to you. We follow behind our heat crews with our K-9 Sniff detection team to approximately 30 days post heat treatment. Some companies do not do follow-up visits as they have found that they have good results the first time around. Believing that if bed bugs return they have been reintroduced by the tenant. We do a follow-up scan because we understand that failures need to be caught early and since we guarantee we want to be sure. Bed Bug Detection & Remediation of S.C. heat treatment plan includes (1 free) k-9 bed bug scan done approximately 30 days after heat treatment as a follow-up measure. If our bed bug dog detects any live bed bugs or live eggs we will retreat the area as described in our original contract at no additional cost.

Thank you for the information. We have confirmed we have them and we know where we got them from. I do not know if they are in my car - so if I do the heat treatment - what can be done to our cars and garage to confirm everything is dead?

Professional Bed Bug Heat Treatment

I didn't treat my car. I didn't even have my car inspected. That's the case despite the fact that I live in an apartment with no laundry facilities on site; to do laundry, I have to put the laundry in the car and haul it somewhere. I had bed bugs for at least 6 weeks without realizing it. Nobody ever worried about the car.

Professional Bed Bug Heat Treatment Cost

If you are not required to leave your home for more than a few hours during the extermination, or if you are preparing for the exterminator, there are a few ways to avoid taking bed bugs with you. Using a spray on anything you are taking out of the house will help kill most of the bugs, but is not 10 percent effective. Carefully inspecting items will also help to catch any bugs. If you are staying with a friend, buy any toiletries on the way and take an immediate shower upon arrival, placing your clothes in the washer to avoid contaminating their home.

Removing potential infestations from fabrics is an involved but necessary measure. Bed bugs are known to hide within the material, and must be eliminated before reusing cloths, curtains, linens, etc. The process must be carefully followed to avoid any cross contamination.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bed Bug Removal:

Bed Bugs In Books? Help?
Recently I Got Some Books From An Anual Used Book Sale Where All Books Are A Dollar. There Hasn'T Been Any Reports This Year, But I Know A Couple Of Years Ago, It Was Reported That Bed Bugs Were Found In The Books They Sold. Because Of That, I Have A Few Questions... 1) How Can You Tell If A Book Had Bed Bugs? Is There Some Sort Of Test? 2) How Can I Get Rid Of Bed Bugs In Books If They Do Have Them? Do I Put Them In The Freezer? In The Oven? I'Ve Heard Of Both Options But I Don'T Know Which One Would Actually Work. Thanks

Bed bugs don't like heat. To see if there are bugs in your books, use a hair dryer on high setting - it won't kill the bugs, but they'll run out of the book.
Clothing has to go in a clothes dryer on high for thirty minutes - that would probably ruin a book.
I think your best bet is to buy NuVan strips and seal your books in a heavy plastic bag. Google NuVan Prostrip to see where to buy them.
"Nuvan ProStrips for Bed Bugs:
For Control of Bedbugs and Bedbug Eggs

NUVAN PROSTRIP may be used to control crawling bedbug nymphs and adults exposed to product vapors for 48 hours. In difficult to treat areas, a minimum treatment time of 72 hours will provide better results.

NUVAN PROSTRIP may be used to control bed bugs that have entered various items in an infested structure including, but not limited to: electronics, appliances, footwear, art work, collectibles, plush toys, clocks, radios, wall hangings, telephones, computers, printers, mattresses, box springs, books, lamps, furniture and other such items. Place infested items in a suitable plastic bag, poly sheeting, container or room that is closed to contain the NUVAN PROSTRIP treatment. Plastic bags or poly sheeting should be at least 2 mils thick. The closed volume for treatment should not exceed the volume to be treated for the size of the NUVAN PROSTRIP used.
Take care to avoid direct contact of the NUVAN PROSTRIP with the surface of items being treated. Seal items in the containment for a minimum of 48 hours to kill bedbug nymphs and adults. To kill any bedbug eggs, if suspected to be present, seal items in the treated space for seven days. Seal plastic bags and poly sheeting with as much air space around the treated article as is practical as this will enhance the exposure to the product vapors. Proper seal can be attained by any appropriate manner such as the use of tape, twist ties or other means. Professionals should test for adequate seal by testing for the escape of air from the sealed bag. Identify sealed treatment by a label indicating a pesticide treatment is in process that should not be disturbed by unauthorized persons. The label should include the date, pest professional person or company responsible and contact telephone number. When treatment is completed, remove treated items from the treatment in awell ventilated area and aired out for a period of not less than two hours.

Bed Bug Proof Material?
Is There Any Sort Of Chair/Sofa That Is, Or Maybe Mostly, Bed Bug Proof? I Ask Because I Wan'T To Buy Used, And Thus Relatively Cheap, Furniture To Furnish My Apartment But Am Afraid Of Bed Bugs And Whatnot. Would A Vinyl Chair Be A Good Idea? Or Leather? Thanks

Yes, leathers and vinyl would be better choices, but I don't think they'd be 100% fool proof. There are still stuffings and materials used inside the couch and under the seats/cushions. I don't think there is anything 100% fool proof other than 100% plastic.

How To Sue A Hotel For Bed Bug Bites And Clothes Replacement?
I Am Wanting To Sue A Hotel In Va For Bed Bug Bites My Family Sustained In May Of This Year. The Hotel Denied That There Were Any Bugs In Their Rooms. My Wife Was Smart Enough To Film The Bugs Their Shells, Egg Cases And The Bites. When The Hotel Staff Saw This They Admitted To Us That It Looked Like Bed Bugs And Brought In An Exterminator Which Also Said It Was Bed Bugs. We Filed A Complaint With The Health Dept Also. The Hotel Gave Us A Roll Of Quarters And Some Detergent To Wash Our Clothes And Moved Us To Another Room And Said They Were Sorry. We Moved To A Another Hotel Beside This Hotel And Noticed That Mattresses Were Moved Outside The Dumpsters Of The Hotel Where This Occurred Within The Next Couple Of Days (Which My Wife Filmed The Mattresses Also). My Wife Went To The Doctor For A Few Bites And We Bought New Clothes. Can I Sue This Hotel For This And Get Compensation For The Bites And Clothes. If So Do I Have To Go Back To Va To File This Or Can I File In My Home State? What Court Does This Fall Under And Where Do I Start? Thanks

?? You STAYED in the hotel after seeing the bugs? Case dismissed.

You did not need new clothes, you needed to WASH your clothes. That is all. Sue them for the cost of cleaning, assuming you had stayed for a while before noticing the bugs, none of which makes sense.

If you do decide to waste your time and money on a lawsuit, you have to do it in the state in which it occurred.

Uv Light Kill Bed Bugs?
I'M Going On A Trip Soon And I Am Looking To Buy These Germ Guardian Uv-C Light Sanitizers. I Was Wondering If Uv Lights Kill Bed Bugs Too?

No. They kill some bacteria by damaging their DNA & RNA, but that requires that the light penetrate the organism. It will never do that for insects.

Can Bed Bugs Kill A Pregnant Womans Unborn Baby During Early Pregnancy?
Can Bed Bugs Eat The Baby And Kill The Baby If You Have Your Period While Pregnant?

First, you don't have your period while pregnant.
Next, bed bugs can't get inside you and bite the baby. Bed bugs don't transmit any diseases, so they are no particular threat to a pregnant woman- just a nuisance.

Does Vinegar Kills Bed Bug Bits?

Firstly, if you WASH EVERYTHING in SIGHT...the bed bugs will disappear...VACUUM your mattress seams, throw out the bag after use....SCRUB, WASH....The bugs are coming from somewhere...If you buy anything from thrift shops, etc WASH RIGHT AWAY...Bed bugs have risen by 40% and are on the increase. Perhaps you have travelled on a plane and pi cked them up there or from a library book, they live in the spine of the books....JUST WASH EVERYTHING !!!Bleach the headboard. Also, buy a cheap mattress cover and smother them, they cannot exit because of the fabric and also it has a zipper...Be diligent....No! Vinegar will not kill the bedbugs....SOAP,WATER, WASH WASH WASH EVERYTHING....You may go through a few vacuum bags...DONOT use the same bag over and over, as the EGGS will live IN the bag...See web below

Do Cats Eat Bed Bugs?

Gross, I hope not. Most indoor cats will kill a bug but don't always eat it anyway. But I'm sure if the cat somehow managed to get a bed bug and kill it, it might just eat it. But it's unlikely. Bed bugs are master hiders, and they run pretty fast, too. They are also pretty small. And I don't know if cats would like them too much since their bodes are mostly comprised of your blood. They definitely won't take care of your bed bug problem, if you have one. Bed bugs don't normally bite dogs and cats, but they could, especially if you weren't around for a while and one got hungry.

Its fine. i have a memory foam bed and It didn't affect it in anyway other that making it cleaner.

Home Remedies On Bed Bug Repelent .Com?

A great way to get rid of bed bugs is with lavender oil, they hate it.

Then give your bed a good cleaning with a vacuum cleaner and wash everything that is on it in hot water, rinse the bedding with lavender oil in the water. Also use lavender on the linen and in the carpet under the bed, or in the water you wash the floor with. Clean the walls and suck out any cracks or holes around the bed and surrounding area. They are small and live in the strangest places.
Another good thing to use is rosemary oil.
You will have to get an exterminator in to get rid of them properly.

How Do You Safely Remove A Bed Bug Cover Without Letting The Bugs Get Out?
I Have A Bed Bug Cover On My Dorm Mattress, But How Would I Go About Removing It Without Letting The Bugs Out All Over My Room? Also, How Would You Recommend Washing Or Removing The Bedbugs From It So I Can Use It Again?

If you have a cover on the mattress for prevention of bedbugs, but haven't seen any, you can take it off, wash & dry it. If you have bedbugs & can see them inside the cover, do not remove it. These covers are meant to be left on permanently. They really don't need to be washed unless the bed's been peed on. Just wash your sheets as usual. If there are bugs inside & you unzip it, at least a few will get out. Also make sure no holes appear in the cover, if you find holes use a strong tape to cover them. Bedbugs can live inside these covers for up to 18 mos+ without feeding.

What To Do About Bed Bugs In The Carpet?
I'M Pretty Sure I Have Bed-Bugs In The Carpet Of My Bedroom. I Always Spot Smallish, Black Bugs With A Reddish Tone On My Carpet Or On Piles Of Clothes On The Ground, And I Occasionally Get Small, Red Bug Bites On My Arms And Feet (Might Not Me From The Bugs, But I'M Pretty Sure They Are!) How Do I Rid My Bedroom Of These Vermin? It'S Pretty Terrifying.

I work for a pest control company, and Bed Bugs are really hard to get rid of. You can, however, minimize them if you can not afford a $400-$1000 service (depending on size of apt/home).

First, put all your clothes from your dresser and closet into large black plastic bags and put them in the kitchen. Seal them tight. Then, do the same for any sheets, curtains, etc. After that, vaccumm the carpet, and make sure to move the furniture around and vaccuum behind night stands, and even the baseboards and behind hanging pictures. Also, vaccuum your bed - take the mattress off and vaccum the box spring, all sides. try to get down into the crevices of the box spring and mattress. Also, vaccuum the bed fram, headboard, foot board, etc. Vaccuum inside the closet and dressers.

Take all those clothes and linens and take them to the dryer and all you need to do is out them on high heat for 10 minutes - no need to wash everything - it's the heat that kills the Bed Bugs.

You may want to do the same for the living room, couch, side tables, carpet in that room if you spend a lot of time in there.

This will not guarantee them to go away, especially since being you are not a professional, you do not know exactly what you are looking for and which areas to concentrate on, but it will minimize the effects. Also, you may have to do it more than once.

Also, they might not be bed bugs - they could be fleas, some kind of beatle, who knows.

Good luck!

How To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs?
Me And My Fiance Recently Found Out We Have A Major Infestation Of Bed Bugs. We Called The Local Exterminator. They We Giving Us An Estimate Of Around $1,000. There Is No Way We Can Afford That On Our Pay. Is There Anything We Can Buy At Home Depot, Or Other Stores That Can Help Us Get Rid Of The Little Bastards? Also What Could I Do In Case They Made Their Way Into My Computer?

There is a great DIY trap that is shown to be as effective, if not more, than the leading extermination stuff. http://lancaster.unl.edu/pest/bugs.shtml I hope this helps! remember, bed bugs cannot crawl up metal, so you might want to invest in a high metal frame for your bed, instead of wood. Another way to help repel them is through using essential oils. Citronella, rosemary, sage, mint, neem, and lemon are all good repellents, and smell good. dilute with water and sprinkle on your mattress, and linens. (caution, some oils can stain). Although, if you want to play nasty, i recommend diatomacious earth. It is the crushed shells of diatoms, small silicon shelled creatures, so tiny that they do not cut or harm humans or pets, but one swipe against a bugs exoskeleton and they will dehydrate and die. sprinkle it around the edges of the room on the carpet, and especially around your bed. this will also kill spiders, roaches, and every creepy crawly that steps foot onto it.

I Have Bed Bugs, The Pest Control Is Coming And I Will Have To Wash Every Single Thing In My Home!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Will I Have To Wash Leather Jackets And Bags?Do I Need To Wash Everything? I Know They Can Come Back But I Don'T Want This To Happen Soon After I Think I Can Finally Sleep Without Being Eaten Alive!!!!!!!!!!!Creepy Stupid Cockroaches That Had Nothing Better To Do Then Move Into My Flat ;(

Bed bugs can only survive on the fabric material. They don't live on the leather, but if the lining is cotton or any fabric then you need to wash all those jackets.

Good luck on the pest control. I had them before, but bed bugs had never gone away until I used Bed bug powder. It is natural powder, so no toxic ingredients and it worked great!!

Mattress Topper Memory Foam Help?
Hi There, I Recently Bought The Mattered Topper Memory Foam 2In, A Fitted Sheet, And Bed Bug Mattress Protector. By The Way I Have Queen Size Bed. I Want To Know Which One Should Be On Top And Which On The Bottom? Maybe The Memory Foam Topper Should Be On The Top? But If I Put Fitted Sheet On It Will Not Protect It Since I Cant Wash The Memory Foam. I Can'T Cover It With The Mattress Protector Because Its 2 In, Which Too Tight If I Got The Queen Size Mattress Protector. Is There Anyway I Can Protect The Memory Foam As Well? If So What'S The Name Of It? Please Help Me, Any Suggestions Will Be Great Thanks In Advance!

The memory foam topper needs to be directly on the mattress. Then the mattress protector. If your mattress protector is too tight, you need to go exchange it for another one or buy another one. Then the sheet.

If I Sleep In A Bed With Bed Bugs Can I Transfer It To A Clean Bed?
I Slept In My Boyfriend'S Bed. And I Found It, He Had Bed Bugs. I Have Been Itching Like Crazy Ever Since. I Thought It Was Just My Pregnancy Making My Skin Act Weird. Do Bed Bugs Make Your Skin Itch? Could I Have Transferred Them To My Clean Bed/Environment?

Yes. Bed bugs make your skin itch because they like to burrow and plant their eggs in dark, warm places such as skin creases (elbows, backs of knees, etc). As for transferring them to bedding, this is a huge problem because once you have any of their material on you (such as eggs or the bugs themselves) it quickly spreads to all your linens (bedding, towels, etc). YOU need to contact your local health authorities for proper instructions on how to rid your entire household of the bugs. I hope you are able to get things under control quickly. Good luck.

Moving And Getting Rid Of Bed Bugs?
Please Help! Almost Two Months Ago I Saw One Bed Bug In My Closet And One On Top Of My Bed. It Was Full Grown. After That I Never Saw One Again. I Dont See Any Bites On Me And I Do Have Mattress Protection. Im Moving Next Week And I Want To Make Sure That I Dont Bring These Horrible Things With Me. All Im Taking Is Shoes, Clothes (Which I'Ll Dry On High Heat Before Moving), Dvd Player, Tv, Books, Dishes ,Mirror And Three Boxes Of Random Stuff. I Put Books And Cosmetics In Large Zip Lock Bags. What Else Should I Do To 100% Make Sure I Dont Bring Those Things With Me. Thank You!!!!

Inside the covering of the bed, put in some Boric Acid (powder ant killer) Place some in all the boxes, books, and random stuff. You can use little baggies with some holes in them. This stuff dries out the hard shell of all bugs like ants, fleas, roaches and bed bugs. Do not breathe it in. You can vacuum it off when you get to your new place. It is easy to wash off of hands but don't get it into your eyes or mouth. Gloves would work when unpacking. They do sell those extra large zip bags for stuff. Have a pleasant move

Bed Bugs And No Hot Water? Help?
We Have Recently Started To Find Little Bugs At Night And Today We Are Cleaning Everything And I Mean Everything. I Read Somewhere To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs You Need To Wash Everything In Hot Water But The Problem Is That There Is No Hot Water Because Something Broke And I Am Asking What Do I Do. How Do You Get Rid Of Them (We Found Only A Few For Right Now). And How Do You Fix That Water Problem.

Bed bugs are a real problem. 1st a Dryer is all that's needed for clothing or stuffed toys ETC. (about 30min will do it)
Vac. and clean every thing you can. Get rid of the vac. bag and any cleaning towels; rags ETC. Look for a nest of bed bugs in the mattress or head bord and remove.

TIP: Get some help. (eggs have been know to live more that 6 months in cold weather) Have the home sprayed asap. Its the only way. Sorry!!! But shop around they may not go away after the 1st spray. Can be pricey. Also they will have a list of do's and don'ts

TIP: After drying the clothing put in a black trash bag and put in your car. The heat in the car will keep them safe to use.

Note: The eggs from bed bugs are sticky and stick to every thing.

TIP: Bed bugs don't fly. Keep the bed away from wall and night stands You can put a "small" amount of oil in a rubber bowl or container to keep them from crawling up the bed legs. Set the legs in the container and then pour in the oil. (when this is all over be very careful when removing)

TIP: Get a very good mattress cover or use 6 ply plastic and tape very well or get a new mattress and cover.

TIP: Empty out dressers; chest of draws and any thing you can before pest guy gets there so he can spray them too. The one that's missed alot is the closet shelf.

Main thing is to keep you from getting bite at night.

Will need more info on the hot water problem...could be as easy as the relighting the water heater to it being completely out.

Those are bed bugs. Ticks would stay on your body where as bed bugs will only feast on you at night. They can carry Hepatitus B and plagues. In which you can suffer from delusional parasitosis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delusional_parasitosis
and PTSD (Post-tramatic stress disorder) That I would say would not be good for anyone in your family to have. You have the right since you are tennants in the motel to take this up with them. If they do not provide proper accomidations that are bug free and sterial you could claim negligance on their part or something.

All of your clothes must be washed and the whole room checked because that is how bedbugs spread from room to room. Its most likely that all the rooms are infected or someone who was staying in your room before you was infected and brought the critters with them. You should be moved to another room and it needs to be checked for bugs because if they can travel easily from room to room while the housekeepers are taking out the dirty linens.

To get rid of them you should get a new bed and carpet but some hotels and motels dont want to pay for that so a bug guy would have to come in a spary then they would have to scrub each bed and floor removing the eggs that are attached in the bed. Its pretty nasty and I heard of a case on the news about one family who brought in an infested bed that someone gave them and it spread thoughout the whole apartment complex they had to quarinteen everyone and all of their possessions and let the bug guys come in and kill all of them.
