Beech Grove Indiana Bed Bug Exterminator

Professional Bed Bug Removal

We always recommend calling a professional vs. attempting to solve a bed bug problem yourself. Professionals have the experience, equipment and access to insecticides that aren't always as easily available to home owners. The biggest downside of hiring a bed bug exterminator is cost, which can include a charge for the inspection and a separate charge for treatment. Together this can cost $750 or more. For this reason we suggest:

Don't be shy about asking questions as they move through the home. Reputable contractors should be willing and able to explain to you what they're doing, why they're doing it and how they're going to treat your problem. Some also offer or refer dog services, employing specially trained dogs to sniff out evidence of bugs.

Be advised: Sprays merely kill the adult bed bugs which means the eggs that have already been laid will hatch into the same problem approximately one month later. This is why other exterminators will tell you it will take multiple treatments

Don't try to "help" by doing additional treatments yourself (unless it is recommended or pre-approved by your pro). So often people end up interfering with the effectiveness of professional treatment by trying to "add-on" to what the exterminator has done. If you're tempted to sprinkle a little of this or spray a little of that...just don't do it. Even if it is a so-called "natural product", deemed to be "totally safe" or the latest thing that is claimed to be the "miracle cure".

So you've made the wise decision to hire a pest control professional. And you've done your homework to weed through your local exterminators and find a true expert on bed bugs. Great! Now you'll want to do your part to ensure success. Here are three tips on how to work with your pro to get the best and quickest results possible...and the most bang for your buck.

The fact is, many exterminators are not experts in dealing with bed bugs. Unfortunately, dealing with a bed bug infestation is not like dealing with most other insect problems. And bed bugs are a relatively new problem (at least in recent history). So you need to find a pro that really knows their stuff when it comes to exterminating bed bugs.

A professional will often charge up to $500 to inspect the home and make a positive identification that bed bugs are present. Costs are higher if a dog is used and lower if the exterminator can find and identify the insect on-site.

Adult Bed Bugs are about 1/4 of an inch in length, while hatchlings are about the size of a poppy seed. They are oval, flat, and reddish brown. They have piercing mouthparts to draw blood for food. Females lay about 200 eggs which hatch in about 1 to 2 weeks. Newborn bed bugs will be ready to lay their own eggs in 4 to 8 weeks.

Rid Bed Bugs Without Exterminator

Follow their instructions completely, both before the inspection and after the initial treatment. If they don't give you instructions, ask. There are no hard and fast rules, and different exterminators have different preferences and protocols. So don't assume that you know what to do because of something you read on the internet.

bed bug extermination how to

Bed bug infestations have increased dramatically in the past few years. They affect all neighborhoods and the causes are related to international travel and the use of exterminating methods that do not work on these bugs. Today, bed bugs are so widespread in New York City, that its not uncommon to find them in the office place and on public transportation. If you found bed bugs, know that you’re one of thousands. Positive Pest Management provides professional bed bug extermination, inspection and preventive services throughout NYC. In the past 10 years we have successfully eliminated bed bugs and other pests from thousands of homes, motels, hotels, restaurants, offices, and more.

How Much Bed Bug Exterminator

If you're tempted to go with the cheapest quote for treatment you can find - that might not be the wisest choice. I'm not saying you have to go with the most expensive one either. But before you make a cost-based decision, make sure the companies you are considering all meet the minimum requirements and have some verifiable proof of success in exterminating bed bugs. Hiring this guy would be a definite mistake!

Does Bed Bug Extermination Work

The most common first signs are bed bug bites. These bites will leave rashes of different sizes and be itchy. Many doctors will not be able to immediately identify them. If you feel you get bites after waking up in the morning, it is very likely a bed bug bite.

Even professionals may need to repeat any treatment 3 times to address any insects that were missed in the initial treatment. Heat treatment is effective the first time.  Most consider bed bugs the hardest insect to treat.

Bed Bug Exterminator Payment Plan

Only trust companies that insist on an inspection.  Pricing should be based on the results of the inspection as not every bed bug problem is the same.  For example,  an infestation could be limited to one room, or be present in multiple rooms.  Reject flat fee plans as you will either be over paying, or under treating your home.

Can't Afford Bed Bug Extermination

While it is possible to get rid of bed bugs yourself, if you take the right pest control approach, I don't recommend it unless you absolutely have no other option.  Hiring a professional who has verifiable experience and success with exterminating bed bugs is a much better bet.

Ask if the treatment is guaranteed.  It often takes 2 to 3 visits to be completely rid of a bed bug problem.  The reason is that late hatching eggs are often missed, since they are so small and hard to spot.

At a minimum, you should expect a good bed bug exterminator to be courteous, listen to all of your questions, and provide reasonable answers that satisfy you. Ideally, they should be asking you questions too - like whether you have any children, pets, or concerns about what types of treatments they use.

What Does Bed Bug Exterminator Do

You're hiring a pro for a reason - and a good one at that.  If you choose a bed bugs exterminator that is really an expert in that area, then they have the know-how to get the job done as quickly, efficiently, and safely as possible. The last thing you want to do is un-do their work by trying to do-it-yourself.

How do you do that? My best advice is to do your homework and trust your gut as you watch out for red flags. That means you have to ask questions...lots of questions. Then, verify the answers by doing some fact-checking.

Once they pass that round, it's time to find out about their bed bug expertise.  Ask questions like how long they have been doing bed bug treatments and what kind of techniques they use. They should be using more than one technique together in an integrated approach. Ask how long it usually takes for the treatment to be successful.

They should explain the treatment they are planning and provide you the names of any chemical pesticides they're planning to use.  They should also provide you the MSDS (material safety data sheet) on any chemical they plan to use. That will explain the hazards associated with that product and provide instructions on what to do if you are exposed to it.

General Bed Bug Information

Bed Bug Pest Control Preparation

All that endless “stuff” you collect — the shiny baubles and trinkets, knickknacks, luggage, old books, clothing, shoes, etc., — things you don’t frequently use, those items also need to be sealed up in black contractor’s bags. Don’t create a luxury dwelling for bed bugs! This is exactly what these items can become when clutter and a pack-rat mentality permeates your living space! Either strive to seal everything up or go for minimalism.

However, if you want to spend a little money, you can purchase “Climb-up Interceptor Dishes”, which cost approximately$5-$6 each. The “Climb-up Interceptor Dishes”, work by capturing the bed bugs when they climb up or down your furniture, beds, etc. These tools help you to capture, identify and monitor infestation levels, as well as the direction bed bugs are climbing both either up or down.

Bed Bug Pest Control Treatment

Recommendation of the installation high-quality, bed bug mattress encasements. Any need to discard the mattress and box spring is often eliminated once it has been treated and covered by a high-quality, bed bug mattress encasement. The mattress and box spring encasements further serve to reduce the likelihood that bed bugs will continue to live in the mattress and box spring. If You Decide to Throw Out Your Furniture lebal (bed bugs infestation), or otherwise damage furniture items so they will not be used by others. wrapped in plastic before being removed from the bedroom. Moving beds without completely enclosing the mattress and box spring in plastic may spread the infestation by allowing eggs, bed bug nymphs, and adult bed bugs to drop from the item as it is moved.

Removal of unwanted items.  Should you decide to remove furniture or a bed, etc, please do in a safe manner.  Wrap any unwanted items in plastic before removing to curb or trash area to prevent the spread of bed bugs to your neighbors.

On the follow up visit and providing all the above steps were taken, we will most likely be able to give you the good news that your home is now bed bug free.  At this time we will open the closet/treatment zone and begin to remove the Nuvan strips.  Please note that if you are not present at time of this service the drawers to the dressers or night stand may not be placed in exact order where they were prior to treatment.  However we will make every effort to return your home to the way we found it…only now..bed bug free!!

Eternal vigilance is a must with these little critters, be sure to keep your clutter to a minimum and/or bagged up, and vacuum everything often. Each member of the household should thoroughly inspect their bodies each and every day.

Empty all shelves, metal or wooden bookcases, desks, dressers, nightstands and every possible piece of furniture. Turn furniture upside down if possible (make sure you wear a weight belt or back support, get help so you don’t throw out your back, or get someone to help you if you can’t do it yourself) and vacuum those items really well with the vacuum cleaner bristled attachment.

Pets.  Cats/dogs/birds are not allowed in home during the preparation or treatment process.  Fish/reptiles should also be removed if possible.  A fish tank that cannot be removed must be covered with plastic wrap after removing some water to allow for more oxygen space.  Turn off air filters for any tank during the treatment.

[stextbox id=”alert” caption=”Important Reminder”]After a bed bug treatment, the safest place for bed bugs will be in your clean clothing, bedding, curtains and cloth materials, etc., so those items have to absolutely, positively be fully sealed up in plastic bags or plastic sealable bins.[/stextbox]

You will also need to go to your local hardware store, not only for double-sided tape for legged furniture (if it won’t damage it), but also for wall-plug safety blockers. If you are not using an outlet on the wall, then seal it up. This will hopefully block those bed bugs from getting in, out or into your walls where they often hide.

Make sure you get good physical measurements of your mattress and box spring for the exterminator, ahead of time, as the beds are going to have to be sealed after treatment, or if the beds are old and worn out, and it’s within your budget, it might be time to buy a new mattress and box spring. However, the items still need to be treated so they do not spread bed bugs. One of the fastest ways that bed bugs get spread is through people abandoning infested items on the curb, it is better to treat the existing furniture than to throw it away.

The mechanical removal of bed bugs by vacuuming thoroughly is an important part of preparing for treatment. The use of a crevice attachment is imperative to access bed bugs hiding inside mattress seams, furniture interiors, baseboards and any place that could accommodate them. 1. Vacuum floors, carpets and area rugs 2. Vacuum mattresses including all crevices, handles, or buttons 3. Vacuum the baseboards, bed frame, sofas, futons, recliners and other over-stuffed and upholstered furniture 4. Discard all vacuum bags immediately after each use Disposal of Furniture There are differing opinions as to whether or not it is necessary to dispose of mattresses, box springs, futons, sofas and other furniture. The cost involved in replacement of beds and other furniture is something to consider when deciding what works for you. It is clear that replacing these items alone will not solve a bed bug problem. The decision to replace the bed unit and other furniture often depends on the condition of and the level of infestation within the items, the comfort of the owner, and whether or not the owner can afford replacement.

[stextbox id=”alert” caption=”Important Reminder”]It can’t be emphasized enough: Make sure you remove every drawer, vacuum it with a bristled vacuum attachment from top, bottom, up, down, left and right, every nook and cranny on them (especially the backs and bottoms of them). Look for black bed bug feces, tiny white/translucent eggs, and bed bugs, themselves.[/stextbox]

Because a lack of preparation could make a bed bug treatment unsafe or cause reinfestation of the entire home or building, many PCOs will not treat areas if they have not been prepared according to the specifications that were given. This is because bed bugs can live in the tiniest of places, so an unprepared area could serve as a hidden and impenetrable harborage during the treatment.

Action’s bed bug services rely on innovative, state of the art equipment in order to remove these pesky creatures from your home.  Our prep technicians use a HEPA certified vacuum, which is specifically structured to remove bugs from furniture, box springs and mattresses.  We will vacuum all pieces of property that are susceptible to bed bugs that may include picture frames or any other items showing signs of infestation.

Bed Bug Pest Control

A good, tough, bristled brush tip is important. A dab of warm water on the end of the bristles (if it won’t damage your furniture) can sometimes help to loosen things, such as tiny bed bug eggs which are attached to furniture and beds with natural bed bug “goo” (They are almost impossible to see without a magnifying glass). The more detail-oriented you are, the better prepared you make your home for our Professional Bed Bug Exterminator, the better the chance for success!

Bed bugs are notorious for hiding in receptacles (electrical sockets), therefore, be sure to unplug all electronic devices in rooms being treated for bed bug removal. This will make the area more easily accessible to the Bed Bug Pest Control Technicians.

Be prepared to follow-up with Professional Bed Bug Pest Control Exterminations. Usually more than one treatment is necessary, because bed bugs are ruthless, and sometimes extremely difficult to contain and kill. A second treatment is sometimes necessary at a later date of your convenience.

Tidy your living space.  Our treatment process is very thorough and labor intensive and involves technicians using equipment within your living space.  Please have your home in order and things put in place.  Not only does this make the job easier and more effective, it also insures that there is less of a chance of accidents, for example, a cup of juice left out on a coffee table that should have been emptied into the sink could easily be knocked over and spilt onto carpet causing a stain.

You may also want to consider taping the legs of dressers, as well. Wrap the legs in double-sided, sticky tape, so the bed bugs can’t climb up. Using the double-sided tape method is the effective “poor-man’s” way of preventing bed bugs from climbing up furniture with legs. It is also very efficient.

Bed Bug Pest Control Services

1. Vacuum outside of the infestation rooms along the perimeter of the rooms with a strong attachment that has bristles to help loosen any possible attached eggs or “dug in” bed bugs. Vacuum hallways, kitchen, living room, bathroom, closets etc.

Everything that can be laundered, should be laundered and placed in clean/new plastic bags or plastic containers and sealed prior to the treatment. The list of items that should be included in laundering are listed at the end of this document and include such items as drapes, stuffed animals, bed skirts, etc. 1. Launder all items (including linens and bedding) according to the manufacturers label, however, whenever possible use the highest allowable heat settings in both the washer and drier. Temperatures reaching 140 degrees (or above) have been proven to kill all stages of bed bug development. 2. Bags used to transport laundry prior to the washing/drying cycles should never be reused and should be discarded outside of the property after transportation. All clean items should be placed in new bags, sealed tightly, and remain sealed during the treatment process. 3. Items that cannot be washed but that can be dried in the dryer at a high heat temperature for should be for minimum of 30 minutes. Discard debris collected in the lint trap after each cycle. 4. Items that cannot be laundered should be taken to the dry cleaner.

People pick up bed bugs in hotels, motels, guest houses, hostels and other “rooming situations” the bed bugs are then transported home in clothing and luggage. People also pick up bed bugs through used furniture and mattresses they find or buy. Be wary of buying and/or picking up used or old furniture.

Be very careful with second-hand furniture or items you see on the street. People also get bed bugs from their neighbors who treated their living space and now the bed bugs are running away and have come for you!

Once the initial treatment has been completed we recommend staying out of the treated home or unit for a minimum of four hours. This allows for an appropriate amount of time for the materials used to dry completely. Only after four hours should you, your children, and/or your pets resume residence in the home or apartment. From this point forward you may carry on with your normal household activities;however, in order to prevent the need to repeat many of the steps necessary to prepare for your follow-up treatment, we do recommend that you not move your furniture and items back into place if at all possible. In most cases a follow-up treatment has already been scheduled for you and generally will fall within 2-3 weeks from the initial treatment. We do understand that thorough preparation may present a considerable hardship for some, but we cannot stress the importance that it has on the overall effectiveness of treatment.

In the aftermath of our detailed Bed Bug Extermination, it is absolutely essential to seal your mattress, box spring and pillows in special covers. We can order these items for you. Also, as a precautionary measure, you should purchase some double-sided tape, and wrap the legs of your bed, sofa, loveseat, or any other major piece of furniture that has legs, with it (only, of course, if the tape won’t ruin your furniture). This provides an excellent detection method and prevents them from climbing up and reaching you or infecting you in future.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bed Bug Removal:

How Can I Stop Being Paranoid About Bed Bugs?
I Had To Deal With A Bed Bug Infestation Last Week. Even Though An Exterminator Came In And I Washed All My Stuff, I'M Still Very Paranoid. I'Ve Been Vacuuming Every Day, I Keep Spraying Alcohol On My Couch, I Have Trouble Falling Asleep In My Bed, During The Day I Keep Scratching And Imagining Itches, I Spend A Lot Of Time At Work Searching For Bed Bug Remedies And Repellents... Every Time I See A Dark Spot Or Speck I Freak Out, Even If It'S Just A Piece Of Lint Or Dirt. What Can I Do To Ease My Own Fears?

I had the same experience before as you are going through now.

In my case, even though I spent $$$ on exterminators, bed bugs kept coming back. And I tried sprays all over my house, but did not work.

I studied and found out that sprays do not work on bed bugs unless you spray directly on bed bugs. I think that is what the exterminator did as well. Using alcohol is the same. What happens is the sprays and alcohol dry up so quickly that the toxin is gone by the time bed bugs come back.

Then one of my friends told me about bed bug powder. You can buy it online for only $12 or something like that. All you need to do is just to sprinkle the powder on the infected areas. It says when bed bugs walk over the powder, the powder actually cuts bugs' shell (body). The powder is like lazer to bugs. I was doubtful of the powder at the begenning (too good to be true!!) but it worked!

I am still using the powder even though those nasty bed bugs are gone. It just gives me peaceful nights not worrying about the bites!!

Did A Bug Lay Eggs In My Pillow?
Two Nights Ago, I Saw This Small Worm/Centipede Like Bug On My Pillow. It Was White-Ish And Had A Brown Head (Or Butt). It Was Right In The Middle Of My Bed, And I Don'T Know How It Got There. When I Took A Tissue And Lifted It Off My Pillow, It Seemed Like It Pulled Out Some Of The Fabric, Because It Was Stuck To One End. Now I'M Looking At My Pillow, And There Are Two Teeny Tiny Dark Dots Where I Think The Bug Was. I Don'T Know If They Were There Before Or If It Is The Bugs Feces, Or My Worst Fear, It Layed Eggs In My Pillow. Help Please? What Should I Do If It Is Eggs? Also, Do You Think There Is More In My Bed? I Checked And Did Not See Anything.

if I were you I'd never sleep in my bedroom again! I remember when I had earwigs in my room 2 summers ago and I slept at friends or the spare room for a whole month. If I were you Id get a ton of raid and spray your room (windows open) and sleep somewhere else for a night or two... also either throw the pillow away or wash it then throw it in the dryer.

What To Eat To Repel Bed Bugs?
Since Bed Bugs Suck Blood Is Thre Enything In Our Food And Drink That When We Eat It Will Be Secreted In Our Blood And If We Are Bitten By Bed Bugs Our Own Blood Can Kill Them?

That's a good question actually.
I've had to deal with bed bugs a few times, and have even had to move.

I am one of those people who seem to attract bed bugs more so than my husband.
I would get bitten hundreds of times a night while my husband had no bites whatsoever.

To answer your question?
There is no type of food or drink that one can ingest to ward off bed bugs.

If you have bed bugs?
I strongly suggest you invest in a good mattress cover, which is specially designed to keep bed bugs out,and also prevent those trapped beg bugs from getting out.
It takes anywhere from 1 year to a year and a half to actually kill those trapped bed bugs. They die from starvation after that time....a year to a year and a half.

The specially designed mattress cover is a wonderful investment. A little costly...around $100+ for a good one. But definitely worth it.

Hope this helps.
Take care.

What Do Bed Bugs Hate And What Attracts Them?

Bed bugs do not like light; however, they will go in it to feed if necessary.
They don't like anything that kills them :P.

They are attracted by carbon dioxide, and body heat.
They love any hiding place, which is a lot, especially if you have clutter

Bed Bugs!!!! Please Read, Concerned! ?
I Stayed At A Friends House Last Night And I Noticed And Itching All Over My Back I Didnt Think Anything Of It Until This Morning When I Saw These Red Mosquito Bites All Over My Body. Hands, Back, Legs, Butt, And Feet. I Looked Up Bed Bug Bites An That Is Exactly What They Look Like And There Hot To The Touch. I Was Wondering If I Need To Go See A Doctor To Have Them Look At It Or If It Will Just Go Away In Time? Also, I Took A Shower Before I Left Her House How Likely Is It That The Bugs Got Transferred To My House Because I Did Not Wash My Clothes I Slept In Before I Came To My Home? I Will Choose Best Answer!

You don't have to see a doctor for bed bug bites. If the itching is too much to bear take antihistamines and/or use steroid creams and of course TRY TO AVOID SCRATCHING THEM, because if you scratch them very much they may get infected and then you'll have to see a doctor who will probably prescribe some antibiotic.

Now, it's unfortunately very possible that the bugs got transferred to your house with your clothing, because clothing is one of the places were bed bugs live and reproduce :/...
If when you returned home you went straight and washed the clothes (preferably with hot water) you were wearing at your friend's and had another shower then the possibilities of bed bugs are a lot less...
However, if you put your clothes with other dirty clothes... then... well... that wouldn't be good at all because the bed bugs would spread literally everywhere :/...

I really hope you don't get an infestation because it's very difficult to deal with and you will need treatment by a pest-control expert...
I wish you the best of luck...

Bed Bug Bites? Or Not?
I Have About 8 Bites Altogether On My Right And Left Leg. And Theres Even One On The Bottom Of My Foot. I Just Noticed All The Bites Yesterday When That Night I Had Slept-Over A Friends House. My Friend Doesn'T Have Any Bumps Or Bites That I Have Noticed. I 4 Bites On My Upper Thigh That Are In A Shape Of A Square. Could That Be A Sign Of The &Quot;Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner&Quot;? All The Other Bites Are By Themselves Scattered On My Legs. They Itch Sometimes, But Not All The Time. They Don'T Have A Red Dot In The Middle But Are Red And Raised. They Are Pretty Large Bumps. Could This Be Bed Bugs? Or An Allergic Reaction To Something? Or Just Mosquito Bites? P.S. I Got An Eye Infection Yesterday If That Has Anything To Do With It. Thanks!

Bed bugs do not bite the bottoms of feet. When this type of reaction is seen, it is usually scabies. I've attached a resource with pictures of bed bugs bites (which have a clear center) and scabies, which is caused by mites that burrow under the first skin layer.

Bed Bugs In Hotel!!!!!?
Hi I Am A Guest Services Agent At A Hotel For Around 8 Months Now. This Morning I Just Heard That One Of Our Rooms Has Bed Bugs!! The Room Is 140 And My Front Desk Is Literally Just Across And Down The Hall From It. I Am A Little Worried Now About Putting My Purse On The Floor And Walking Into My House With My Work Clothes On. Also My Owner And Managers Didnt Even Seem To Care. Can I Refuse To Work There Due To Bed Bugs? Im Honestly Really Scared About Bringing Them Home.....Thats If I Haven'T Already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bed bugs only travel about 100 feet, so the risk to you is minimal. I'd just keep your purse off the floor and keep it zippered. If you are really concerned, get a big Zip Lock Big Bag and keep your purse zipped inside when you are not using it. This will keep bed bugs from getting inside.

Another option (one you should do anyway given where you work) is to spray any creases, seams and the zipper with a bed bug luggage spray (see resource). This will keep bed bugs away for 3 to 6 weeks at a time.

What Kind Of Bug Is On My Cat?
I Have An Indoor Cat. Every Spring/Summer He Gets The Same Kinds Of Bugs On Him. They Are Not Fleas. The Are About 3 Times As Big As A Flea, And A Brownish Color. We Live On A Farm, But I Don'T Know If That Is Relevant. I Don'T Think That They Are Particularly Harmful (They Don'T Appear To Bite Him), But He Sleep In My Bed And I Find It Kind Of Gross. We'Ve Tried Flee Baths And Drops, But They Always Come Ever Spring/Summer. They Responded To The Capstar Pill Last Summer If That Helps Any. Any Help Is Very Much Appreciated. It'S Been 5 Years And I Really Want This To Stop Happening.

Just one question - if your cat doesn't go out, where does he get these bugs from. It seems like they may be hibernating in your house. In general I wouldn't think you'd have the same kind of bug year after year unless they're in the house itself. I have 9 indoor cats who don't get fleas or ticks. I may bring in a tick from outside but once it's killed, there is no more. And by the way stay away from flea baths, they are extremely harmful, they are chemicals. There are better products on the market that aren't as traumatic or poisonous to cats. Whatever they are, I have a feeling, you aren't going to get rid of them with out finding out what they are and where they are coming from. Try taking one to the vet.

Bed Bugs Possibility?
So I Live In A College Dorm. I Got Back From Thanksgiving Break About 4 Days Ago, On A Sunday Night. All Day Monday, My Back And Upper Arms Were Unbearably Itchy, And When I Got Back To My Room, The Left Side Of My Face Swelled Up. I Took Some Benedryl And It Went Away, So I Dismissed It As An Allergic Reaction To Something I Ate. Wednesday Night, I Was Doing Homework In My Room, And My Arm Started To Itch, And Then A Welt Appeared.Kind Of What A Mosquito Bite Looks Like. I Went To Bed, And When I Woke Up In The Morning, I Had Welts On My Hands That Looked Like Bites, And My Legs Were Unbearable Itchy (But Didn'T Have Any Bites That I Could See). Becuase Of The Bed Bug Hype, I'Ve Been Freaking Myself Out. I'M A Clean Person, So I Hope This Isn'T From Bed Bugs. I'Ve Looked All Over My Beds And Sheets And I Haven'T Seen Any Bugs. It'S Weird, Becuase Before Break, None Of This Happened, It Was Only Until After... So Does It Sound Like I Have Bed Bugs? If I Wash All Of My Bedding, And Vacuum Will That Take Care Of Them?

having bed bugs has nothing to do with being a "clean person"
They are hard to see but since you did not have the problem before break, did you happen to get a new body wash or use a new laundry soap between then and now? Even a new shampoo could do it because if you shampoo in the shower, it gets all over your body.
Has the weather suddenly turned colder in your area? When that happens to me, I get itchy just because the heat is on and the air is dryer.
The welts sound like hives.

If you do have them, washing bedding could help but they live in the mattress.

Where Can I Find Anwsers About, What Bed Bugs Look Like?
I Live In A Oxford House, Which Is A Recovery House. Lately My Housemates And I Have Been Getting Bites About Our Bodies. I Have Found A Flat Round Bug With Legs Like A Centipede All The Way Around The Body Part Of The Insect. I Found This Insect Crawling Across My Bed.

You have to get rid of them and everything they ever came in contact with. They're nocturnal, so looking for the during the day probably won't work. They can live on wood, wallpaper, beds, furniture, etc.

Is this what they look like?

The sprays that kill the mature bed bugs usually do not kill their eggs, so you have to call in the professional bug killers to use thier heavy duty chemicals to kill the adults AND the eggs.

But you have to spray every part of the house, apartment building, on all levels otherwise you are just chasing the bugs from one room to the next to the next!

Do Bed Bugs Die When Sprayed With Raid?
And If They Do, How Long Does It Take? They Don'T Seem To Shrivel Up Like Spiders Or Go Into A Frenzy Like Cockroaches.

April,

The RAID is not going to work.

You may end up needing an exterminator to deal with this but I think you should look at some do-it-yourself options that you can spray on your furniture including your mattress to see if it is salvagable.

There are several chemical free bedbug products available. The one that I have used is called BedBug Terminator and it is sold online by a company called Kleen-Free. It will kill the bedbugs on contact as well as their eggs. You just spray it everywhere for a few days.

You do need to be patient and persistent with this or any treatment as bedbugs hide well and can go weeks without feeding.

Also, not sure if you live in an apartment and if the bedbugs have spread or not but everyone needs to treat them and not just you - maybe you can split the cost of whatever you choose.

Good luck

Sue

Bed Bugs? Please Help?
I Wold Up This Morning To A Bed Full Of Bed Bugs. How Do I Get Rid Of Them. My Brother Wants To Throw The Bed Away

Oh my, bed bugs are very hard to get rid of.
First, I suggest that you wash all of your bedding in very hot water.

You will also have to check all of your dresser drawers. Those little pests can get everywhere. You may have to wash all of your clothing.

You must also completely vacuum your room. Make sure you vacuum around all of your baseboards and your mattress. Take the vacuum outside and get rid of the dust bag inside. Clean your vacuum.

Also, get in touch with recommended pest control agency to go in and treat your mattress, bed and the entire room with a special product made to eradicate bed bugs.

You may have to do this several times as bed bugs lay eggs. That is why it is so important to vacuum. Check with your local health department for recommended pest control agencies who specialize in bed bugs.

What Can Bed Bugs Live On?
Okay I Know They Can Live In Beds, On Clothes And Everything Else But I'M An Art Student And I Have A Lot Of Sketch Pads/Paper That I Bought In Bulk For When I Have No Money Left. Do I Have To Throw Away All Of Them? And When I Mean I Bout In Bulk I Have Like Maybe 20 Sketch/Drawing/Watercolor Paper In A Closet. Not To Mention Canvas Cloth And Every Thing... Please Answer The Bed Of Your Ability. If You Don'T Know Don'T Answer!!

Bed bugs live inside of walls, in furniture and in closets. And in carpet and along the baseboards.

They live on blood. They crawl out of their places late at night and crawl onto beds and suck blood out of humans. They do not eat paper. If, they get on paper they will ruin it by pooping and shedding their shells. And laying eggs.
Bed bugs are like having blood sucking roaches around.

Bed Bug Infestation Laws? Are They Responsible For My Damaged Furniture Or Mental Distress?
After Moving Into My Dream Loft, 5 Months Later It Became Infested With Bed Bugs, I Was Told They Originated From A Unit On The 1St Floor (I Live On The 3Rd), Point Being I (And The Bldg Mgt) Know That I Was Not The Cause. They Fumigated Once So Far But To No Avail. I Am Moving And Am Throwing Away My Bed And Brand New Couch Out Of Paranoia Of Bringing Them With Me. I Have Also Experienced Much Mental Distress From The Bites And Can No Longer Sleep Well At Night. I Think Every Little Speck I See Is A Bug. I Asked For My Security Deposit Back At The Time Of My 30 Day Notice (So I Could Use It To Move) And They Said No. I Am Not Breaking A Lease, It Was Month To Month. I Am Wondering If They Are Responsible For The Cost Of Any Of My Things?

It depends on the landlord/tenant laws of your state, but in general, the answer's probably, "no." The landlord or management company didn't cause the bugs (another neighbor did, and those are the chances you take when you live in shared space), and they are apparently trying to resolve the problem.

They will have to return your deposit (minus any damages), within the time period specified by your state, after you've completely moved, provided you met the time limits specified for notification and moving (also specified by state law).

I feel for you. It happened to me once. I slept in a sleeping bag on the floor for a month until I could save up for a new mattress. One of the ways I learned the hard way that renter's insurance is totally necessary. (And surprisingly affordable, especially if you add it to an existing policy.) This time it was "just" bugs, but your neighbors could also start a flood ... a fire ... You know?

I hope you find a better new place. Best wishes.

Bed Bugs?????
There'S A New Apartment We Want To Get. The Previous Owners Left About 2 Weeks Ago Because The Bed Bugs Gave Them Rashes. There Is No Furniture Left, The Apartment Is Now Completely Empty, Save The Fridge And Stove. The Landlord'S Wife Cleaned It Out, Repainted It, If That Makes A Difference. It'S Been Empty For About 2 Weeks. The Previous Owner Had Professionals Try To Exterminate Them, Twice, And It Didn'T Make A Difference. Do Bed Bugs Leave If They Have No Food Or Humans To Feed On? Will There Be Any Bed Bugs Left, Is It Safe To Move Into That Apartment? All Answers Greatly Appreciated.

Right now I'm going through that. A friend of my mom's left a couch that contained bedbugs. She moved from apartment to apartment every few months. So she must've lived in an infested one and brought them with her. The couch was right outside my bedroom so of course my room is their new home. They are not fun and they are extremely hard to get rid of. This will be the second time I had to call the exterminator. I wouldn't be surprised if I get another visit from them. They can hide just about anywhere. Cracks, bed frames, tvs, under flaps of loose wallpaper, carpet even in the fridge and stove. They can go a year without eating. No wonder the previous owner couldn't take it anymore and finally left. It can get frustrating. In 3 months you can get over 200 bites. So far I've had 40-50 and it's been about 2 months. They are probably still in that apartment and waiting for the next person to come in and feed on. It's not worth it. If you move in there, they can get into your stuff and when you move out you could bring them along with you. Too risky! Don't do it!!! I've been sleeping like a cocoon lately. In a sleeping bag and a thin blanket over my face tucked tightly.

What Are Bed Bugs, And What Do They Look Like?

Bed bugs change in appearance based on where they are in their lifecycle and before/after blood meals. They start in small white eggs that are about the size of a pin head. At birth the instars (baby bed bugs) are approx. 1/16 of an inch and have a clear/straw color. After feeding they take on a reddish appearance from the blood. They pass through 5 instar stages and then become adults in the 6th stage. They move/require a blood meal to pass from stage to stage. As an adult they are about 1/8 of an inch and take on a brown/red color. They grow in size after a blood meal.

The resource has a picture of bed bugs at each life stage before/after each blood meal.

Bed Bugs.. What Can They Do To You?

Not much in most people. Most people show no reaction to bed bug bites. Since they don't spread disease, they are not a big deal. However, in some people, about 30%, there is some type of allergic reaction to the bite. In most people reactions set in within an hour and result in some type of round red area with a clear center. They should heal in 2 to 3 days. Very allergic people can have larger skin reactions such as blistering. In rare occasions, the bites could trigger a bigger allergic reaction such as asthma.
