Professional Bed Bug Removal

We always recommend calling a professional vs. attempting to solve a bed bug problem yourself. Professionals have the experience, equipment and access to insecticides that aren't always as easily available to home owners. The biggest downside of hiring a bed bug exterminator is cost, which can include a charge for the inspection and a separate charge for treatment. Together this can cost $750 or more. For this reason we suggest:

Don't be shy about asking questions as they move through the home. Reputable contractors should be willing and able to explain to you what they're doing, why they're doing it and how they're going to treat your problem. Some also offer or refer dog services, employing specially trained dogs to sniff out evidence of bugs.

Be advised: Sprays merely kill the adult bed bugs which means the eggs that have already been laid will hatch into the same problem approximately one month later. This is why other exterminators will tell you it will take multiple treatments

As a side benefit, other harmful bacteria and mold can also be eliminated using this treatment. Although you will have to leave your house during the heat procedure, it will not cause damage to your property or possessions.

Note that not every bed bugs pest control product is mattress safe. Examples of products that cannot be used of mattresses include Demand, Dragnet, Talstar One, Onslaught and Gentrol.  Phantom is labeled for use on seams only.  The best choice for a single product that is also mattress safe is Sterifab.

Termites are beyond doubt one of the most destructive pests. The subterranean and wood inhabiting are the two general types of termites. Be it rugs or carpets, furniture, walls or foundations, termites can devour homes and cause huge financial damages. A recent report stated that the average loss from termites in the homes and residences in the Unites States is a whooping $5 billion!

Bed bug natural sprays, while providing an immediate killing effect, are less likely to provide a residual effect, so they are often used in combination with  another organic product, bed bug dust (also called fossil dust and diatomaceous earth).  These products are all natural and are mined out of the earth from ground up animal fossils.  The fine dust sticks to the outer shell of bed bugs, eventually penetrating the shell and killing the bed bug.  Silica dust is another dust product that will also work.

If you just have a small area that needs to be treated, the use of heat in a sealed chamber is also the best way to treat furniture such as a couch or sofa  and other household items that are thoroughly infested.  Many pest control companies have either a heat chamber in a remote building, or on the back of a truck that can be used to treat an item.  This is also a preferred method for purchases of used furniture such as antiques.

Carpet Beetles are a problem. Not only do they eat fabrics, some species even eat certain foods. Carpet Beetle infestations can even cause allergies, brought on by the inhalation of the small hairs that are shed by the larvae of Carpet Beetles. Carpet Beetles have even been linked to the spread of some infectious diseases, like Anthrax.

Most products available in home stores that are labeled for bed bugs do not work. These products use a relatively safe chemicals called pyrethroids. Today's bed bugs are highly resistant to pyrethroids.  The result is over use of these products. Products such as "Hot Shot" foggers are not recommended. If you do use them, check the label to avoid over use.

All treatment methods start with a thorough cleaning of the area to be treated.  Inspecting and cleaning every surface in the room is a good start. Recent studies show that as many as 80% of the pests can be found on or near the bed.

Professional pest control companies may offer several treatments to meet your needs. Spray pesticides are still common — the Environmental Protection Agency lists more than 300 products for mattress, room and whole-home elimination.

When treatment is needed, pricing will depend on the size of the area to be treated as well as the type of treatment. If standard control, using products specifically applied for bed bugs, you can expect to remove carpet edges where necessary, perhaps outlet plates and some personal belongings. If heat treatment is used in areas offering that service, certain materials must be removed such as candles, makeup, etc.

Although an average healthy person can withstand as many as ten stings per pound of his body weight; this becomes fatal if the person is allergic towards honey bees, bee stings and bee venom. In that case, even a few stings can trigger severe allergic reactions in victim's body and the victim can collapse. Then, there is the pain. In most cases it was found that the victim did not die from the large quantity of the venom introduced into his body, but from the acute pain that caused cardiac arrest.

The insecticide chlorfenapry is one of the best choices for a bed bugs pest control residual spray.  Chlorfenapry is a newer insecticide that doesn't  have repellent properties. It will kill both bed bugs and bed bug eggs on contact.  This type of product comes in a liquid and aerosol form. For home and apartment owners, Phantom is the most popular chlorfenapry brand in its aerosol form.  This product is used with a knock down such as Sterifab since it takes up to seven days to fully work.

This gives rise to such dust mite 2 allergy symptoms as drippy, runny noses, stuffy noses, coughing, sneezing, teary eyes, itchy eyes, itchy nose, itchy throat, itchy roof of mouth, chest congestion, wheezing, skin rash, post-nasal drip, chest congestion, swollen eyes, red-rimmed eyes, dark circles under the eyes, crusty eyes, and facial pressure and pain, just to name a few. Reactions to the dust mite 2 allergen can be even harder on those with asthma. Airways in the lungs can become angry, swollen, and inflamed, increasing the severity and frequency of asthma symptoms. And just in case you don't hate dust mites 2 enough already, they have also been linked to problems like rhinitis, eczema, atopic dermatitis, and, albeit loosely, SIDS.

Bed bug eggs are resistant to some bedbug sprays and will not be picked up by a vacuum since they are bound to surfaces with a cement like substance.  Heat is often used along with natural treatment options and insecticides as an effective way to kill bed bugs and bed bug eggs.

The most effective way to achieve bed bug elimination is to follow an integrated pest management (IPM) principle that includes monitoring, using a combination of several treatment methods, follow-up evaluation of the results, and re-treatment until elimination. After treatment, bed bug numbers become small and more difficult to find. To avoid premature termination of treatment, use a combination of visual inspection and bed bug monitors to detect bed bugs and confirm if bed bugs are indeed eliminated. Stop treatment only when you cannot find bed bugs after using the abovementioned methods for a month. When more than a few apartments are infested in a multi-unit dwelling, a buildingwide approach will be necessary and will most likely require the experience of a pest management professional.

Also, look for a company that uses the integrated pest management (IPM) approach. Instead of relying entirely on pesticides or chemicals, IPM uses a combination of chemical measures, preventive measures, and sanitation to improve efficacy and limit environmental impact.

Since dust products rely on the bed bug crossing through a dust field, it needs to be thinly applied in cracks and crevices with a duster.  The added advantage of bed bug dust is that it will have a long residual effect if left undisturbed.  Also note that some bed bug dust products have insecticides mixed into the dust.

The conditions of each property are different, and therefore the problems are different for each house. Thus, quotes and estimates for the cost of bed bug control are best done locally and perhaps after an inspection by a qualified Pest Specialist.

Most organic or natural bed bug spray products kill bed bugs  using plant extracts such as Euginia Carophylla, Mentha Piperita, and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate which is made using oconut extract.  Examples of popular organic sprays are Bed Bug Killer and All Stop.

Structural fumigation is your last choice; this involves completely tarping your home and evacuating it for several days. During the process, gas is released to permeate every inch of the house, including behind walls and under floors.

These products kill the bed bugs when the bug comes in contact with the poison. After spraying the killing effect lasts for several weeks. These products are made from chrysanthemum flowers (pyrethoids). They are not always effective since they can work as an insect repellent, so instead of the bed bugs entering the area treated, they might avoid it. There has also been reports of bed bugs developing a resistance to this product. For most problems, using pyrethoids will be an effective method when deciding how to kill bed bugs. Products that contain pyrethrin usually come in the form of a pump or aerosol spray (565 Plus XLO, Bedlam, Cb 80 Extra brand).

Sterifab is widely considered to be the best mattress safe knock down spray for bed bugs pest control. A knock down spray is ideal for killing bed bugs and bed bug eggs on contact.  It uses a synthetic pyrethroid combined with alcohol.  Follow up treatment using a spray that provides lasting protection by creating an invisible barrier such as Phantom.

Bed Bug fumigation is similar to fogging, but is more intense and lasts for 1 day. A high dose of insecticide is used to not only kill bed bugs, but the eggs as well. Vikane is one brand commonly used. This approach requires have a pest control license and special equipment. All bed bugs will be killed with this approach and is used to rid an entire building of pests. The advantage of fumigation is that it is effective, while negatives include cost and having to leave home. Note encased plastic mattresses cannot be fumigated. Another fumigation approach is to place belongings into a container or truck which is then fumigated to ensure that all bed bugs are killed, such as a mattress.

Insecticide based sprays should only be used as directed but are very effective. Be sure to buy a product that both knocks down (kills on contact) and that provides some type of residual or longer lasting effect. The later is to kill any late hatching or bed bugs you might have missed.

All blankets should be removed from beds and washed in hot water and then placed into a dryer on a high heat setting. When removing clothes from a room, be sure to bag before removal to avoid dropping bugs throughout the house. A normal hot water wash cycle followed by 30 minutes in a dryer will kill all bed bugs  and eggs. A special detergent is not needed.

This was the best $300 I ever spent!! I called at noon and they were at my place by 3:00. They were really professional, gave me some good tips for preventing future problems and gave my apartment the all clear!! Thank you for saving me $1500 in extermination fees!! I was totally ready to call in the big guns, but it turns out I didn't need to!! I will sleep peacefully tonight (except for the mosquitos).

To all of you who are apprehensive about having a dog come inspect your apt dont be. Jeremy is very discreet and professional. He came within the time frame he said he would be coming. This company doesnt  have any invested interests in exterminating so you wont find that attitude. I find the solution to this problem is early intervention, educating yourself of what to do and not to do and luck. Bed Bug Pest Control Services

Jeremy is the most informative, patient, calming guy in the business.  I worked with two of his dog handlers, and both were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.  They always took their time, answered every question five times over, and understood the crazy that goes along with this pest. Five months after moving to New York, I got bedbugs from my neighbors.  My landlord brought in their shady pest control guy, and I continued to get bitten, and didn't have anyone to work with to develop a game plan to tackle the problem effectively. So,of course, I did everything you don't need to do.  I threw away all of my new furniture, and high tailed it out of there with only my dry cleaned clothes and dishes with me.   For 2 years I lived in constant fear of ever going through this again.   My friends made fun of me for being obsessive about the bugs , but when you flee a problem rather than dealing with it, you don't have a good grip on the reality that they are something you can tackle.  At one point in my new place I found a bug that I couldn't identify, and Jeremy came over and reassured me that it was not anything to worry about.   Well, even after living practically in a bubble for 2 years, somehow, the little critters found their way back into my life.  House guests? Work? Who knows.  They got me.  This time, though, they would not win. I called Jeremy and he immediately put me at ease.  He linked me up with a good pest control company, took my calls when I was in hysterics, and never made me feel like a crazy person. He was reassuring, and always went the extra mile to ensure that I was getting the best treatment both from his company and the pest control I worked with.   I know this is a long review, but I honestly think this man is a saint.  He is a good guy in a dirty business.  If more people like him existed in this field, people wouldn't feel so out of control and fearful of this bug.  I opened this yelp account just to write this review.  Jeremy and his company are worth it!

The dog came and didn't find anything. Turns out they were here and i got a very bad infestation.(Also my Doctor looked at the bites and called them hives). Like an idiot  without realizing uncalled the same dog back to check out my office after the presence of bed bugs was confirmed  in my apartment and  he didn't find anything again. Do I need to spend another $300?  Also as I know well now what to look for on the bedding signs were present when the woman with the dog came to my apartment. DO NOT TRUST these people.

There are  few insecticide products registered for indoor use. The few that are are tested and found to be effective are mentioned on this page. Those that are registered are primarily from one chemical class, the pyrethroids. Bed bug populations in the United States are known to be resistant to pyrethroids. Because of this, no single insecticide is capable of eliminating a bed bug infestation if used alone. This is why professionals and this site recommends the use of multiple insecticides that attack the problem using several types of ingredients.

They were on time and the dog Freedom was all business in the best way: nose to the ground. They didn't find bedbugs - even though I had bites. This I can say with surety **they don't pretend that there are bedbugs just to make money off of getting rid of them for you.** Now I just have to do research/buy mattress encasements/get my bed raised off the floor onto a frame and see if my bites go away. The Bed Bug Inspectors said that if the bites come back they will check it again free of charge. Jeremy on the phone was nice just like all the reviews say and Paul who came to do the check up was kind of like Wesly from Princess Bride.

Will The Suns Heat Kill Bed Bugs?
My Roommate Brought Bed Bugs On My Couch. I Flipped Out Of Course And Put My Couches In The Backyard In The Sun. It'S Been There For A Week Now. I'Ve Been Spraying The Inside (Removed The Bottom) With Raid'S Bed Bug Spray And Every Now And Then I Spray 91% Alcohol All Over The Couch. These Are Suede Couches, They Were Expensive Plus They'Re Still In Awesome Condition. I Don'T Have The Funds Nor Do I Want To Get New Couches Right Now. Also, I Live In Arizona. It'S Been At Least 107 F At It'S Peak For The Past Week.. No, They'Re Not Covered. But Once I Bring Them Back In, I'M Cleaning Them With Steam Or The Rug Doctor.

No, on the contrary, the sun gives them more moisture and heat enough for their "eggs to hatch".
Unfortunately 'Nothing' kills bed bugs, and the only way to get rid of them is Throwing away the furniture or even better Burning it (if you can).

-Check your place very, very well, because bed bugs reproduce and spread very fast, living in Anything made our of Wood, specially Couches, Beds, and Mattresses. They live inside them, hatching their eggs inside the wood, and that's how they take care of their young ones.

Where To Find Bed Bugs Nest Spot?
So I'Ve Never Had Bed Bugs A Day In My Life & All Of A Sudden I'Ve Seen In The Past Week 3. They'Ve All Been By Themselves In Day Time. I'Ve Searched My Bed Like They Say To And Haven'T Found Any. Can They Live In Blankets? Have No Clue Where I Could'Ve Gotten Them! A Little Freaked Out! Will I Have To Get Rid Of My Sheets, And Mattress Also?

First, especially before spraying any insecticide, make sure they are bed bugs, what you are describing does not make sense. If they are bed bugs they can be anywhere 15 feet from your bed, including the light fixture above the bed. A possibility could always be they are either bat bugs or swallow bugs, if you had an infested colony of bats or nesting birds you might have these two types of "bed bugs" wandering bugs about. But as mentioned first get it identified to separate it from one of the three common biting bugs or just a plant bug coming in from the outside with the change of weather.

Bed Bugs..Can You See Them?
Can U See Them In The Bed/Mattress? Where Do They Hide In The Bed? Has Anybody Actually Seen These Bed Bugs? I Am So Parnoid About These Bugs

Adult bedbugs are more visible, but the "children" are tiny and still can be seen if a person looks closely where a "nest" is found. Check around the seems of your mattress, carefully inspecting each inch, top and bottom, lifting up the seems as you go around. You might notice one hiding .. ONE IS A PROBLEM. or you might come across a nest even. You'll see their droppings if they're there. If the problem is out of hand with many nests it will be very difficult to get under control and you might consider just tossing out the mattress .. but WASH EVERY STITCH OF FABRIC YOU HAVE IN THE HOME .. INCLUDING THE DRAPES IN BOILING HOT WATER TO KILL THE BUGS THAT MIGHT BE THERE because the problem will just seep back into any new matress you purchase. TheY didn't just appear out of nowhere into the mattress, and are most likely hiding in cracks and crevices around the home .. including inside clocks, tvs, radios .. they just need a tiny space to hide in and are hard to crush so get your home FUMIGATED if you find even one and VACCUUM VACCUUM VACCUUM REGULARLY even if you don't have an infestation at the moment.

Kill Bed Bugs With Heat?
I Was Getting Bit About 2 Days Ago At First I Thought It Was Just A Mosquito Then I Noticed It Was Only At Night...So Im Pretty Sure Its Bed Bugs. So What I Did Was Wash All My Clothes And Sheets In Hot Water, Vacuumed The Cracks And Corners, Got A Bed Bug Protector From Walmart To Cover Up My Mattress And Put A Portable Heater In My Room And Left It On For An Entire Day...The Heater Doesnt Tell You How Hot It Is And I Dont Have A Thermostat..Its An Old Heater But It Got Pretty Hot In There..Will This Get Rid Of The Bed Bugs??? I Have A Tempurpedic Bed..Idk If That Matters.

hi
very quick answer to your question
NO and that is a big fat NO
there is lots of false information about using hot water and heat to get rid of bedbugs. In fact if you do not use the right temperature especially for washing which is basically boiling point for the whole wash, all you are actually doing is speeding up the breeding process
I have a whole website dedicated to treating bedbugs and information on bed bugs feel free to check it out, especially the article on laundry and washing

I Want A Product That Will Kill All Bugs In My Home Like Bed Bugs And Mosquitoes?
I Mean I Need To Wash The Seats But I Want All The Bed Bugs Gone Because Me And My Boyfriend Keep Getting Bit Up We Have A Cat And I Looked Its Not Fleas So Any Help Will Do And I Heard Fogger Or The Bomb Kills All Bugs Is That True?

foggers kill all bugs the fog comes in contact with...bed bugs hide during the day where the fog will not work. If you fog at night in hopes of now getting them, after they feed they may go dormant for a bit of time, so now not all of your bed bugs would be exposed to the fog. First thing to do would be get the bites properly identified for what insect, if the "bites" are from an insect at all...this time of year exterminators get inundated with bite calls that are from drier winter air causing paper and fabric irritations.

From Where Did The Phrase &Quot;Don'T Let The Bed Bugs Bit&Quot; Originate?

A Jew told that to a customer after he sold them a mattress infested with them.

Can I Sue My Landlord For Untreated Bed Bugs?
Ive Had Bed Bugs For 7 Years Off And On And They Cant Seem To Get Rid Of Them And They Are Sending Exterminators Out But That Doesnt Do Any Good

Answer: Yes, you can sue, and there is legal precedence for this.

There have actually been several lawsuits regarding bed bugs over the last decade, many of which included responses from the landlord/owners regarding their efforts to exterminate the infestation. Due diligence has shown that in most cases, the landlord/owner is not approaching the extermination of bed bugs in a manner that would eliminate them.

The most common technique, which consists of spraying chemicals in the affected area, has limited success, as the parasites can dig deep into beds to hide, and almost always simply relocate into adjacent areas (spreading into a neighbor's apartment.) As bed bugs can survive up to a year without eating, hiding in the cracks and crevices of a room is of little concern to them.

The cost of a successful extermination can be upwards of $60,000, a price that most landlord/owners scoff at, but considering the precedence with litigation, it's an upfront cost that avoids deeper penalties. Consistently calling in an exterminator to "spot treat" the infestation can be construed as negligence on the part of the landlord/owners and is a very serious point of concern.

The most successful method of treatment to date has been sealing the structure and increasing the temperature within to between 120 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit in order to kill the bed bugs. There are several companies throughout metro areas that offer this service. Perhaps make a recommendation to the landlord?

Where Did Sleep Tight Dont Let The Bed Bugs Bite Come From?
I Never Realized How Nasty It Sounded And What It.Probbaly Really Means Until I Said It To My Gf Tonight. And For The First Time I Stopped And Said What . .Dont Let The Bed Bugs Bite. Yuck . Where.Did The Phrase Start ?

Sleep tight actually refers to old fashioned beds where the bedding was essentially held up by a piece of cloth that was sort of attached to the bedframe via ropes that you had to tighten each night. If you don't sleep tight then your bed sags. Bedbugs are bugs that live in bedframes and bedding. They still exist but were more commonplace when the phrase was popularized.

Where Do Bed Bugs Bite Mostly?
I'M Pretty Sure I'Ve Read In Many Articles That Bed Bugs Bite In Exposed Areas And Such, But I Keep Seeing These Pictures Of People Getting Bed Bug Bites On Their Backs And Fronts And Am Wondering, Do They Bit You Underneath Your Clothes, Like On Your Buttocks? I Have Three Bites That Resemble Mosquito Bites One Day, Then The Next Morning, I See Another One...But Just One. It'S Itchy, And Red And When I Scratched Them, They Seem To Flame Up And Have Like A Bump To It. They All Seem To Have Like A White Fluid Like Feel Inside The Bite. When I Scratch It, It'S Gone, And Turns Into Almost A Scab. This Is Driving Me Crazy. I Just Came Back From A Trip To Cancun, And My Sister Had The Same Thing Happen To Her Only It Was On Her Thigh, She Had Seven Bite Marks That &Quot;Seemed&Quot; To Line Up In A Straight Line. Are They, Could This Be Bed Bug Bites????? I Need To Know Soon To Eradicate These Bad Critters....Especially The Recent Outbreak Of Bed Bugs All Over The Us! Thanks For Any Response.

Yes they get under clothing. Anywhere there are dead skin cells, basically.

How Do Bed Bugs Know Where To Bite???
Why Only Bed Bugs, Almost Every Creepy Bug Know Where Exactly To Have A Bite On Human... How Do They Know - Is It Their Research Or By Instinct...

tq has got it. They have good sensory perception and are typically drawn to parts of the body with the thinnest skin and easiest access to either veins or capillary beds. They acn sense the heat that comes form these areas, we can too actually put your hand on your theigh than put it behind your knee...notice the difference? areas like behind the ears, behind the knees, elbow, genitals groin, and head usually produce more heat than anywhere else.
Insects, well actually toher bugs like "kissing Bugs" are attracted to the lips, this is because there is thin skin with easy access to many blood vessels...the lips are one of the most sensitive places on the human body, mostly due to the thin dermis and extra blood vessels...we know it, they know it!
Mosquitoes and black flies do the same, they are just able to detect minor changes in temperature.
If you look at an infrared image of a human body, you can see all these areas highlighted as the hottest, those also correspond to the areas most heavily attacked by biting insects.

Poll:What S The Best To Sleep In Bed Naked Or Not Naked And Explain?
I Prefer Sleep Not Naked I Don T Like Sleeping Naked Because Is Not Comfortable For Me And I Get Cold Sometimes.

i saw a video explaining to sleep naked as it is more beneficial. somehow releases stress ( don't remember how but something to do with chemicals in your body being released more when sleeping naked versus clothed ). it also talked about how it would regulate your temperature which can be true depending where you live like for me i live in Hawaii it rarely gets really cold to the point you need a blanket at night. if you sleep naked here you can do fine and not even run any fans. i usually can't sleep naked because people are always bugging me and knocking on my door violently if i lock it plus i'd have to shut my windows which defeats the purpose of sleeping naked because my neighbors can see into my room if they are open.

just all depends on you. the only thing i have trouble with sleep wise is my back always hurts and i constantly wake up many times at night just tossing and turning.

How To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs For Good On Your Own?
Okay So Lately I'Ve Been Having Numerous Bites All Over My Body And Just A Few Moments Ago I Saw A Couple Of What I'Ve Guessed Were Bed Bugs. I Think This Has Gotten To A Point To Where Its Now Unbearable And Needs To Be Stopped Sooner Than I Thought. I'M Looking For A Way On How To Kill Them Naturally, By Myself Because Of Money Issues. But Is There Really Need To Call An Extermination Company?

You need to find out how bad it is. Close the windows in the bedrooms, close the blinds or curtains, turn the heat as high as it will go, close the door, and leave it like that for a couple of hours. Then open the door and you wlll see them if they are there. They will most likely be on the walls. (This is what you need to do every time you stay at a hotel before bringing anything into the room - walk in, do this, walk out and go for a meal or something while you wait.) Check in the dresser drawers. If you do not see any in the dresser drawers, the infestation is not as bad as it might be.

Put double sided sticky tape around the legs of the beds and furniture, on any wooden parts of the beds, around the perimeter of the room, at the edges of the baseboards, along the window ledges, insde the switch plates and plug in plates. You could also put vaseline on the legs of the beds and other furniture. Bed bugs like to hide out behind switch plates and in other places like that and the sticky tape will catch them. Also check inside ceiling light fixtures - take them down - and inside any smoke detectors - take them down and clean and treat with the sticky tape.

Dry all the bedclothes, clothes, fabric items, and stuffed toys on HIGH heat for at least 30 minutes. SEAL everything in plastic bags for at least three days, which will kill them. Nothing should go back into the infested rooms until you have taken care of the problem. Throw away the pillows. Buy new ones. It is not worth trying to clean them. Check every closet and dresser for the bugs or eggs and if you find any, you have to do the whole process everywhere. Check behind picture frames, curtains, mirrors, etc. If you find sticky yellowish white balls of the size of a dust particle then use a hard brush to dislodge them and collect them in plastic bags. These are bed bug eggs! You can use the sticky tape again to pick up any live bugs or even the eggs. Kill every bed bug that you see. Go on a bug hunt.

Vacuum several times a day and immediately empty the vacuum cleaner OUTSIDE, not inside. If you cannot do that, empty it inside a plastic garbage bag and immediately put the bag outside. I would remove any carpet when you can, and replace it with hardwood or a vinyl or something easier to deal with.

Steam clean mattresses, particularly the edges and seams, luggage, camera cases, laptop cases, and every piece of fabric furniture in your house.

Block all their easiest routes. Caulk along baseboards, around switch plates, and everywhere you see any possible opening so that the whole area is sealed.

Replace box springs and mattresses if you can. Put the new mattresses AND BOX SPRINGs inside an approved mattress cover before you even bring it into the bedrooms. If there are bed bugs in the old springs or mattresses it is incredibly difficult to get rid of them, even with chemicals. The only thing you can do about that is to put each of them inside a cover, seal the cover, and do not open it for at least a YEAR. That is the length of the life cycle of bed bugs, so you have to make sure nothing can get out for at least that long. Keep the beds away from the wall, not right up against it. Make sure sheets and blankets do not touch the floor, Put the legs of the bed inside a slippery sided container to make it even more difficult for them to get to the bed.

If you have wooden framed beds, consider getting rid of them and replacing them with just metal bed frames to support the box springs and mattresses.

There is no point in using a fogger - they don't get bed bugs. There is a product called Kleen Free Naturally, made specifically to clean insect-infested places, it's natural and it's biodegradable, so not harmful to you, your children or your pets. Make sure you clean every surface, behind every piece of furniture, inside every cupboard and drawer, along the baseboards, light fixtures, wall sockets - basically everything in your room or house. If you can't find that product, ask at the hardware store for something similar.

Do everything on this list again in 10 days, and again in another 10 days. If you are scrupulous about doing this, you should get rid of them in about 30 days. I hope this helps. Good luck with it.

Bed Bug Question!?
I Don'T Have Bed Bugs But My Mom Said You Can Have Bed Bugs If You Have Your Bed Laying On The Floor Because It Has &Quot; No Air&Quot; Is How She Said It. Because Since Your Bed Is Touching Carpet, It Can Get Bed Bugs. Is That True?

Bed bugs can hitch a ride on your belongings or be carried by bats/birds. They usually hide close to the bed (as the name implies) but sometimes spread to other areas.

They are most likely to be found in rooms where a lot of people sleep, or near warmth.

I've never heard about a mattress touching the floor attracting bed begs in particular. They tend to hide under the sheets and mattress itself, not in the carpet, so I don't think you have much to worry about.

Where Do Bed Bugs Come From?

There are several common ways you can get an infestation...just avoid these:

1) Living in an apartment. Bed bugs often live or crawl in the spaces in between walls as well, and if your neighbors have them, you could as well. That also can make it harder for you to permanently get rid of them, since you've got a potential source until your neighbors take care of their own infestation.

2) Travel. Many hotels have infestations. With international travel, this is even more likely. Bed bugs will often crawl into your luggage and get carried back into your home, and all it takes is one to get an infestation started there, too.

3) Clothing. Sometimes they could get into your house by crawling onto your clothes randomly - but this is actually pretty rare.

4) Used furniture or clothing. This is more common - if you buy used clothes or used furniture, sometimes there can be bed bugs in them (they don't just live in beds, but anywhere near where people sleep). If you bought something used and bring it into your house, that could be where you picked up your own set of bugs.

5) Your occupation. If you regularly go into other people's houses for some reason, you could easily bring bed bugs back with you that way. If you're the cable guy, a plumber, or anybody who goes into other people's houses, you're at risk.

6) Guests. If someone stays at your house, they could bring them over with them. One big source of this is students coming home for the holidays - the dorm rooms could easily pick up an infestation given how many people are coming in and out all the time from all over.

7) Wild animals. This is a kind of rare way people have gotten them, but sometimes people have had animals get into their house for a short period and bring them in with them. Birds and bats are the most common offenders.

Nearly eradicated for the past half-century in the industrialized world, Bed Bugs are now making a come back.

Bed Bugs Bites After Leaving The Hotel?
I Was In Amsterdam (Nl) For A Weekend. On Sunday, I Was Landing Home And Found 3 Bedbugs Bites On My Hand And Lower Back. The Day After, A Few New Came Up And Like This Every Day. From Yesterday Until Today, I Have Only 2 New Ones. Now I Ask Myself If They Came Home With Me, Or If They Live Under My Skin Or If They Are Not Bed Bugs But Maybe Fleas. Or How Is It Possible That From Sunday To Wednesday, I Keep On Getting New Marks! I Am Very Sad: Living In Europe And Here They Don'T Seem To Be So Common. Even The Dermatologis Said It Might Be Bedbugs, But She Only Had 1 Case So Far :(

The bed bugs probably did followed you. You need to check your matress and belongings you have taken with you on abroad and see if you find any bed bugs. By that, use a lint roller or clear tape to see if you find any small white specs and if you could crush them with your nails, it could be their eggs, and the brown specs is their poop. Normally, bed bugs can be seen on the side of your mattress on the crease or any holes they could hide during the day. Also, you need to buy a bed bug spray called Pronto. I couldn't find them before at my local stores, so I ended up buying them online at Amazon or eBay. Use that spray immediately once you get it and spray it everywhere around where you sleep, including the luggages you brought along. And your clothes and mattress covers needs to be washed in hot water. Also, buy a mattress and pillow protector so you could seal them away from biting you at night (also purchased at Amazon). Just as long as you have that Pronto bed bugs spray around, you'll feel safe sleeping at night. Make sure to buy more than 1 can just in case. As for your bug bites, rub hand sanitizer on them and they should clear out in a day. Good luck and hope my experience will help you as well.

My Daughter Is Getting Bites Which Look Like Bed Bugs.?
Tho We Haven'T Found Any, Treatment Has Started. I'M Wondering Where They Came From. We Have 2 In/Outdoor Cats That Constantly Hunt. Could It Be From Them? And If So, How Do We Keep Them From Bringing More Home?

I've never heard of cats bringing home bedbugs, but have you checked them for fleas? Fleas will bite humans as well.

How Do I Kill Bed Bugs?
I Have Been Fighting Bed Bugs For 9 Months Now And I Can't Seem To Totally Get Rid Of Them How Can I Kill Them?

Bambi,

I guess it depends on what you have tried already for what you can do now.

If the exterminator failed then the bedbugs you have may be chemical resistent which means you need to try something else.

There are a number of chemical free approaches the people use with the one I hear most often being bedbug terminator by Kleen-Free.

This is a contact spray that you use for a few weeks to slowly get rid of the infestation. it takes time and effort but it might be your final solution.

Good luck.

What Is The Best Way To Kill Bed Bugs And Doesn'T Cost A Lot?
My Friend Got Bed Bugs On Her Last Out Of Town Trip , And She Can'T Get Rid Of Them.

The best way to get rid of bed bugs in 4 steps.

1. De-clutter the room getting rid of everything you don't want or need. Lot's of clutter just gives bed bugs more places to hide! Launder all bedding and clothing at as high temperatures as fabrics will allow and tumble dry - again at high temperatures. Place all laundered items in clean plastic bags and seal to prevent re-infestation.

2. Vacuum EVERYTHING mattress, box spring, furniture, closets, carpets, curtains, every crack and crevice. When you are done empty the contents of your vacuum into a plastic bag, seal it and dispose of it and be sure to thoroughly clean your vacuum cleaner.

3. Re-trace your steps using a steam cleaner. Make sure you get one capable of reaching 120o at the tip and which produces "dry" vapor so that you do not end up with everything soaking wet and perhaps cause a problem with mold!

4. Scatter a light coating of crawling insect dust or use a bed bug spray like bedlam plus as an extra insurance policy.

This process takes time and a lot of hard work and you may also have to repeat it more than once to eliminate the problem but it does work and it doesn't cost a fortune.

Are Bed Bugs Found Where Dogs Are Found?

No, not specifically. I mean, bed bugs are wherever there is a warm, cozy place for them to live. Like beds, carpets, sofa's, chairs, etc. And, if that includes dog beds, then so be it. But having a dog does not CAUSE bed bugs, if that' what you mean.
