Beech Grove Indiana Bed Bug Prevention
Professional Bed Bug Removal
We always recommend calling a professional vs. attempting to solve a bed bug problem yourself. Professionals have the experience, equipment and access to insecticides that aren't always as easily available to home owners. The biggest downside of hiring a bed bug exterminator is cost, which can include a charge for the inspection and a separate charge for treatment. Together this can cost $750 or more. For this reason we suggest:
Don't be shy about asking questions as they move through the home. Reputable contractors should be willing and able to explain to you what they're doing, why they're doing it and how they're going to treat your problem. Some also offer or refer dog services, employing specially trained dogs to sniff out evidence of bugs.
Be advised: Sprays merely kill the adult bed bugs which means the eggs that have already been laid will hatch into the same problem approximately one month later. This is why other exterminators will tell you it will take multiple treatmentsBed Bug Prevention
By using mattress encasements (and pillow and box spring encasements) you can protect your bed and prevent bed bugs from infesting it - even if they do make it past the front door. If you do nothing else, this is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself.
If, after your inspection, you think you might really have bed bugs, contact a pro. Many random people claim to cure bed bugs, so check for research verifying that this exterminator’s methods truly are effective. Don’t try to treat the whole problem on your own, since over-the-counter pesticides can make the problem worse, as all the bugs it doesn’t get can now sense the chemicals and will run away. This can cause them to spread to other areas of the home, making the problem worse. While you wait for the exterminator, a few at-home stop gaps include using a steamer on the bed. (Don’t do this unless you’ve really identified a problem.) Vacuum the mattress in the meantime, but still call a professional because the vacuum often won’t pick up all the eggs stuck in the mattress. Remember to empty the vacuum immediately, outside of your home. If you’re worried that clothes are infected, running them through the dryer will kill bugs at all stages of development.
Place your seasonal clothing and fabric in the vacuum sealed bags and use your vacuum cleaner hose to remove the air from the bags and put them away. This method will prevent items like sweaters and blankets from being infested by bed bugs while stored away for future use.
Bed Bug Infestation Treatment
You can buy encasements for your bed and box spring—this won’t prevent bed bugs from entering your home, but it will make the problem way easier to fix if they do. Jeff told us that the two most reputable brands are Protect-A-Bed and Mattress Safe. You can also buy the ClimbUp Monitor, which prevents bugs from climbing into your bed from the floor. Just note that the interceptor is kind of ugly, so you might want to hide it beneath a bed skirt (just don’t let it touch the floor).
Preventing bed bugs at home starts with taking a few extra precautions. The single most important step you can take to preventing an infestation is to purchase and install mattress covers, box spring covers, and pillow covers. If you have an infant, don’t forget crib covers too, bed bugs do not discriminate and will attack your children as well.
Bed bug prevention begins with the understanding and knowledge of how to spot and eliminate breeding conditions. Despite their name, bed bugs can infest and breed in any part of your home. While they are commonly found in bedding, mattresses, box springs, and bed hardware, it is important to monitor your entire home in order to prevent bed bug infestations.
They don't discriminate, so you have to get rid of your assumptions of where they might be. They could be in a 5 star resort hotel or a youth hostel dormitory. They could be in that piece of furniture you picked up off of craigslist or in that brand new high-end bedroom suite you just bought. You simply have to get that into your head. If you're thinking, “there couldn't be bedbugs in that” or "a place like that wouldn't have bed bugs" - think again.
Bed bugs are elusive, and they typically hide in narrow cracks and crevices. Basically, anything you can slide a business card into will be an ideal hiding spot for a bed bug. It is also important to remember that bed bugs are not always found in a bed. They will shelter in any place that meets the necessary temperatures they require to live.
What if you are exposed to bedbugs? Don't Panic! It's not the end of the world if you take steps to de-bug your stuff before you bring it into the house or when you first get home. Better yet, hopefully you will have already safeguarded your bed so you can rest (relatively) easy even if you have been exposed.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you need to place yourself in a plastic bubble, just be smart. Educate yourself on bed bugs and watch for signs. If you see them, leave. If you can’t fully avoid bed bugs, keep reading. I’ll share some extra steps you can take to minimize your risk of infestation.
If you experience bed bugs, unpack your whole suitcase outside your home (like in a garage or on the fire escape). Pull out clothes and put them through a hot wash or dry cycle—if you have delicate items, know that even a low dry cycle will kill bugs. Disinfect your suitcase with no-pest strips that you can drop into a garbage bag along with your emptied suitcase. Seal up the garbage bag and store it for two or more weeks. The pesticide will fumigate the area in the bag and kill any remaining bed bugs. Way cheaper—and less traumatic—than bringing a whole bed bug incident into your home.
Bed Bugs Eradication Tips
Don’t risk your safety and peace of mind—it’s possible that you may not be able to kill bed bugs without help. Professionals, like Catseye, have been protecting homes and families from pest infestations like these for many years. High-end pest management companies can enter your home and ensure that the bed bugs are removed completely.
What Does Bed Bug Extermination Cost
Raise furniture and look for bed bugs. Hiding spots usually include underneath the mattress, bed frame and headboard. Typically, they come out at night to feed, but during the day they are most likely found within a 5 foot radius of the bed.
Bed Bug Exterminators Near Me
The first skill you will need is the ability to identify bed bugs in all stages of their life cycle – that means eggs, nymphs (baby bed bugs) and adults. You'll also need to know how to detect the symptoms of a bed bug infestation and where to look for these signs.
Fortunately there are a number of bed bug prevention products and strategies you can use to minimize your risk of a infestation. As the spread of bed bugs once again begins to rise in the US, people are becoming more aware, and taking extra precautions. In particular, these extra precautions are being taken as people travel and visit other people’s homes.
Bed bugs are spreading at a rapidly increasing rate around the world with a recent University of Kentucky/National Pest Management Association study indicating that we are on the verge of a national pandemic. The press and exterminators that specialize in removing bedbugs from homes are located in many towns and cities where the problem exists.
Additionally, when staying in hotels, perform a thorough inspection of the hotel room, in particular the mattress, box springs, and head board. We recommend these inexpensive and highly effective bed bug travel kits. If you see bed bugs or signs of bed bugs, leave the room immediately and request another room.
These bed covers prevent bed bugs from entering your bed, living on your bed, and escaping if they are already in your bed. Using these covers are a much better alternative than using chemicals or pesticides on your mattress or box spring. If bed bugs cannot feed, they will die.
Another great product is dissolvable laundry bags designed for front or top load washers. These dissolvable bags allow you to carry your laundry home in a sealed bag and place the clothing immediately into the wash, minimizing exposure of your home to bed bugs.
Knowledge is the key to prevention. Understanding what bed bugs look like, how they travel and where they congregate can prevent costly pest control treatments. The most common way for bed bugs to be transported is through exchanges in shared spaces like hotels or public transit.

Bed Bug Eradication Cost
Eradicating bed bugs from a home can become an expensive and time-consuming because the likelihood of a reinfestation increases if the pests are not eliminated completely and thoroughly the first time. If you follow these tips, you can prevent your family and guests from getting bed bugs.
Bed Bug Killer
We always recommend that home owners use pest control experts when fighting a bed bug infestation. We suggest contacting several firms given that each company has their own approach to killing bedbugs and costs vary between companies.
Although some companies may tell you to get rid of all your furniture and clean all your clothes entirely, Jeff told us that this is only necessary in severe cases, which he estimates as about 10 percent of all he sees. (More often than not, those highly severe cases occur around senior citizens, where eyesight and mental faculty is an issue, or in areas of true, unsafe overcrowding.) As long as you live a relatively clean life and are on top of the issue, you’re probably okay. As a rule of thumb, figure that your case isn’t too severe unless you’re actually seeing the bugs walking around your apartment. We hope that you never encounter bed bugs—but, at the minimum, you’ll be prepared.

Chemical applications: The primary method of treatment is chemical-free heat. We may include the use of a natural-chemical treatment called Diatomaceous Earth, which is a naturally occurring dust that kills bed bugs and other nuisance pests physically, not chemically.
Females can deposit one to five eggs a day, and may lay 200 to 500 eggs in a bed bug’s lifetime. Under normal room temperatures and with an adequate food supply, they can live for more than 300 days. Find out what temperature kills bed bugs.
Bed bugs can multiply quickly, so early detection is critical to help prevent an even larger infestation. Our integrated A.I.M. protection process works to assess your home, implement solutions, and monitor any bed bug problems you may face.
Bed bug inspections are necessary for determining the presence of a bed bug infestation. It is very difficult to perform an effective bed bug inspection without professional training. This is mostly due to the bed bugs’ uncanny ability to hide in crevices as small as the head of a screw. In addition to visual confirmation, Bugman bed bug technicians looks for other signs of bed bug infestation including bed bug egg sacs, fecal matter, blood spots and even a distinct bed bug smell.
How Much Bed Bug Treatment Cost
Multi-residental properties, such as apartments and condos, are particularly vulnerable since they can spread from unit to unit. So even if you do not have bed bugs and your neighbor does, you can easily become infected. We have special training in bed bug removal services and bed bug prevention in homes, apartments and even commercial businesses, such as doctors offices, hotels and hospitals.
Although they are small parasitic insects, bed bugs can be seen by the naked eye and can be identified by the appearance of small brownish or reddish dots on bedding, mattresses, and furniture. These are bed bug droppings and blood spots from their feeding. Heavy infestations may result in an odor described as “buggy” or sweet. Bed bug bites usually produce mild or no reaction in most people but may leave behind red, itchy welts. Bed bugs feed on any bare skin exposed while sleeping (face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, etc.). While they prefer humans, bed bugs may also feed on your cats, dogs, birds or other warm-blooded pests. Still not sure if you have bed bugs? Rose Canine Bed Bug Inspection teams can quickly and easily check your home or business. Our dogs are so efficient they can detect the presence of a single bed bug and even their eggs!

A bed bug inspection is also important to understand the severity of a bed bug problem and how many rooms in a structure are infested. With a proper bed bug inspection, a licensed technician can then layout an effective strategy for bed bug extermination.
You can pick up bed bugs almost anywhere — offices, stores, hotels and gyms for starters. They’re great at hiding and have been known to hitchhike in luggage, personal belongings or even you. Once indoors, they can be very difficult to control without the help of an experienced pest specialist. You can reduce your chances of a costly bed bug infestation by catching them early.
Bed bugs are usually picked up in buildings frequented by large numbers of people, like hotels, and unknowingly brought back home in infested luggage, backpacks, purses, furniture, bedding, shoes or clothing.
Bed Bug Treatment And Cats
It often seems that bed bugs arise from nowhere. The bugs are efficient hitchhikers and are usually transported into dwellings on luggage, clothing, beds, furniture, and other items. This is a particular risk for hotels and apartments, where turnover of occupants is constant. Bed bugs are small and agile, escaping detection after crawling into suitcases, backpacks and belongings. Acquiring secondhand beds, couches and furniture is another way that the bugs are transported into buildings. Bed bugs also can be carried in on one’s clothing, shoes or wheelchair. Once bed bugs are introduced, they can crawl from room to room or floor to floor. They can also be transported throughout buildings on people and their belongings.
Bed bugs have been absent from the US for over 50 years, but recently we have seen an increase in cases. Bed bugs are small, brownish, flattened insects that feed on the blood of animals. They can change in shape as they feed and develop.(See image) The common bed bug prefers feeding on humans, but it will also bite other warm-blooded animals, such as cats, dogs, birds and rodents. Adult bed bugs are about 3/16” long and reddish-brown, with oval-shaped, flattened bodies. They are sometimes mistaken for ticks. The immature bed bugs (nymphs) resemble the adults, but are smaller and lighter in color. Bed bugs do not fly, and they don’t jump like fleas do. They can crawl rapidly over floors, ceilings and walls. Adult females lay several eggs per day in secluded places. That means hundreds of eggs per female during their lifetime. The eggs are about the size of a sand granule. They are whitish and hard to see, especially on light colored surfaces, such as your bed mattress. When first laid, the eggs are sticky, causing them to adhere to surfaces. At room temperatures, bed bug eggs hatch in about a week. Newly emerged nymphs are straw-colored and no bigger than a pinhead.

Unlike cockroaches and flies that feed on filth, there is often no relationship between bed bugs and cleanliness. Since the bugs feed solely on blood, pristine dwellings can be as vulnerable to infestation as are places of squalor. That said, poverty and privation can lead to increased risk of bed bug problems, as can the inability to hire a professional exterminator.
Bed Bug Removal Assistance
Bed bug extermination is a very specialized part of pest control. A bed bug exterminator is necessary when the presence of bed bugs is found during inspection. It won’t be enough for the homeowner to spray around a room or insert sticky pads underneath the bedposts. Bed bug removal requires a comprehensive approach to dealing with bed bugs and their propensity to reproduce and spread. Please call Bugman before throwing away any furniture as well. It may not be necessary for complete bed bug extermination and long term control.
Because of their elusive nature, bed bugs are easily overlooked by unsuspecting property owners and managers. What Is Bed Bug Treatment
Bed Bug bites typically appear as red inflamed spots on your skin. The size of bites varies as each individual reacts differently. Bed bugs inject an anticoagulant when feeding which causes reactions and determines the size of the mark left behind. Bites usually occur in areas of exposed skin like arms, legs, and backs.

Bed Bugs Or Fleas In My Room?
So Far, I Have About 15 Bites For The Past 3 Weeks Ever Since My Friend's Dog Stepped In My Room. His Dog Does Have Fleas, Which Is Why I Think It Might Be Fleas. I've Washed My Bedsheets And Blanket Every Week. However, That Only Kept The Biting To A Minimal. The Bites Are Itchy And Are Either On My Legs Or Arms. I Wiped Around The Floor Near My Bed And Swept Around My Room. What Is It And How Can I Get Rid Of It?
It doesn't really sound like flea bites, since flea bites are usually on the lower legs and in areas where clothing might be tighter, such as around the waist.
There seems to be almost an epidemic of bed bugs in some places now. If they are bites from bed bugs you need to do much more than wash your sheets.
More recently, as world travel has increased, bedbugs are finding their way into the home through luggage and clothing worn abroad.
Another contributor to the resurgence of bedbugs in the West is changing pest-control practices. Sixty years ago the common use of DDT — which kills most insects — nearly eliminated bedbugs in the United States.
Today the use of DDT is being phased out due to human toxicity concerns. Further, current extermination practices are more insect-specific — what's toxic to a cockroach may not kill a bedbug.
The third link has a lot of good information about what you can do yourself to get rid of bed bugs without calling an exterminator.

Purchasing A Used Mattress--Can You See Bed Bugs?
I Am Looking At Purchasing A Used Mattress....Can You See Bed Bugs--And Is Safe To Purchase A Used Mattress? Advice Please!! :)
Firstly, there are some signs that a mattress may be infested with bed bugs:
1. Blood stains from crushed bugs or rust spots of excrement on the mattress.
2. Eggshells and shed skins may be found in the vicinity of their hiding places - often in the folds of the mattress.
3. An offensive, sweet, musty odour from their scent glands may be detected when bed bug infestations are severe.
4. Bed bugs are difficult to see as they are nocturnal, fast moving and the way that most people know they are present is by being biten and then identifying the three signs above.
The second part of your question regarding whether it is safe to buy a used mattress, is like the other answer said no, no, no. It will not cause terminal damage to your health if you do so, however it is the thought of what might be in the mattress that is oh so off-putting for most. Not only could you be sharing your bed with bed bugs but also the dried bodily fluids of the previous occupants.
It would be better peace of mind for you if you looked into buying a new mattress, shop around and buy the best new one you can afford. If this is not feasible and you must proceed with the purchase of the second hand mattress, there are a number of things you could do to sanitise it before you use it. Such as steam cleaning it, leaving it out in the open air to release any odours and spraying it with some sort of fabric or upholstery refreasher. Once inside again, you could cover it with an antiallergy mattress protector and all should be fine.

Do Bed Bugs Get In Your Hair?
My Friend And I Saw A Bug On The Bed And We Looked It Up And It Was A Bed Bug. We Only Saw One But Is There Others In My Bed Even If There Isnt Any Holes. And Do They Get In Your Hair
Bedbugs are generally active only at dawn, with a peak feeding period about an hour before sunrise.
Attracted by warmth and the presence of carbon dioxide, the bug pierces the skin of its host with two hollow tubes. With one tube it injects its saliva, which contains anticoagulants and anesthetics, while with the other it withdraws the blood of its host.
Bedbugs can lay up to five eggs in a day and 500 during a lifetime. The eggs are visible to the eye measuring 1 mm in length (approx. two grains of salt) and are a milky-white tone. The eggs hatch in one to two weeks. The hatchlings begin feeding immediately. They pass through five molting stages before they reach maturity. They must feed once during each of these stages.
At room temperature, it takes only about five weeks for a bedbug to pass from hatching to maturity. They become reproductively active only at maturity.
Bed bugs love warm places and the head is one of them, heres a pic of bed bugs in the hair of an arm or neck

I Was Staying Ata Friends House And I Had A Little Bag With Me. If The Bites Are From Bed Bugs Could They Be In My Bag? If So What Can We Do To Dispose Of Them? Please Help!!
More then likley bed bugs.. and yes they can easily travel....you need to heat your clothes in the dryer on hot for at least 45min(DO NOT WASH THEM FIRST)...commercially available bug bombs and sprays do not work..they may seem to control them at first but they will only come back stronger...they are nearly impossible and extremely expensive to get rid of...also your bed linens, blankets and sofa cushions or anywhere you've touched needs to be heated...these things are nasty! they usually come out at night and suck your blood and sometimes leave little welts on your skin but some people don't react to the bites at all?....you can't see the eggs or the babies..they like to go up to the top of the wall and ceiling to leave their droppings(it looks like dirt or thick cobb webs) it is also very easy to transfer them to others... someone can get them just by coming in and sitting on your couch or if you sleep over at someone elses house... if the heat treatments don't work call a professional immediatley but prepared to pay at least a $1000 minimum...

Can Eating Too Many Cough Drops Make You Sick?
Basically, Everyone In My House Is Or Had Just Been Sick With Something. Three Days Ago, My Brother Had A Stomach Bug, And Now I'M Stuck In Bed With A Headache, Stuffy Nose, Soar Throat, And Terrible Fatigue. The Chances I Caught A Stomach Bug Are Fairly Low, Considering The Fact I'Ve Been In My Own Room Since He Came Down With It (I Have A Weird Fear Of Puking), But At A Party I Went To Last Week, A Friend Did Have A Killer Cold, And Now Everyone At That Party (Including The Host'S Three-Year-Old Niece) Is Sick. Thanks. So Last Night And This Morning, I'Ve Been Popping Hall'S Triple Soothing Action Cough Drops Like There'S No Tomorrow. In One Hour This Morning, I Consumed About Seven, Even Though The Bag Says You'Re Only Supposed To Have One An Hour. Last Night, I Probably Had About Five In An Hour. Since About Eleven O'Clock (Twenty Minutes After I Stopped Eating Them) I'Ve Been Sort Of Nauseous And My Stomach'S Been Making Some Pretty Weird Noises. Granted, I Don'T Feel Bad Enough To Puke, But I Don'T Feel Too Great, Either. Is This From The Cough Drops, Or Some Mild Form Of My Brother'S Stomach Flu?
Yes it can make you sick. Depending on the type, some cough drops contain sorbitol which is a natural laxative, also found in some chewing gum. So it is normal you had an upset stomach. Try drinking chamomille or another herbal tea.

Can Bed Bugs Live In Books?
Can Bed Bugs Live In Books? I'M Moving Out Of My Apartment And Throwing All My New Furniture Out Because I'M Grossed Out By The Situation, But I Have A Ton Of Books - I'M A Teacher, So I Have Children'S Books As Well As My Leisure Books, And Someone Told Me They Can Live In Books. Help, I Love My Books!!
Eeewww - bad memories there. My particular creepy crawlies were roaches, not bed bugs, but UG - they do infest books.
According to an article I just read, yes. Bed bugs will infest books.
Putting the book in plastic zip-lock bags and leaving them in the car while the car gets very very hot may save you from having to destroy the books. Apparently freezing the books is also an option. Fumigation or a call to the Orkin man may be an option, though I worry that they do as much damage to our bodies as to the bodies of the bugs.
