Professional Bed Bug Removal

We always recommend calling a professional vs. attempting to solve a bed bug problem yourself. Professionals have the experience, equipment and access to insecticides that aren't always as easily available to home owners. The biggest downside of hiring a bed bug exterminator is cost, which can include a charge for the inspection and a separate charge for treatment. Together this can cost $750 or more. For this reason we suggest:

Don't be shy about asking questions as they move through the home. Reputable contractors should be willing and able to explain to you what they're doing, why they're doing it and how they're going to treat your problem. Some also offer or refer dog services, employing specially trained dogs to sniff out evidence of bugs.

Be advised: Sprays merely kill the adult bed bugs which means the eggs that have already been laid will hatch into the same problem approximately one month later. This is why other exterminators will tell you it will take multiple treatments

Bed Bug Removal Methods

Studies show that bed bugs have built up a resistance to certain liquid chemical treatments. In fact, some types of treatments may actually be adding to the spread of these pests. That is why bed bugs are not something you should attempt to tackle or treat by yourself.

Bed Bug Treatment For Carpet

Freezing Dry Ice Spray: Bed Bugs can be killed, basically frozen to death with a liquid carbon dioxide gas (also known as gas from dry ice).  The advantages of this approach are like heat, it requires no chemicals and is perfectly safe.  A freezing bed bug spray can also be used to treat electronics.  The spray will penetrate objects such as furniture.

2. Vacuum All Surfaces: As mentioned earlier, the vacuum is one of the best tools for bed bug removal. First vacuum the entire room. Then use the crevice tool to vacuum along the baseboards. If you have carpet, consider steam cleaning.  For added protection, add a disinfectant designed to kill parasites such as PuraCleenRX to the cleaning solution.  Test on an out of the way area to see if the disinfectant will stain the carpet before using.  Inspect all carpet edges.

When heat treatment is warranted, Evergreen Pest & Termite will provide you with our simple prep sheet checklist. This will ensure heat sensitive materials can be put aside while we treat your home to eliminate the bed bug problem.

Bed Bug Removal Methods

A female bed bug will lay 5 to 7 eggs/week, 1 or more eggs per day and 200-500 eggs over her lifetime. The eggs are small (1 mm, 1/32"), whitish in color and slightly pear shaped.  Bed bug eggs are difficult to see without magnification or a flashlight and are about the size of a pin head or speck of dust.

The rate at which bed bugs move through the various life stages depends on the temperature of the room and the availability of a host.  A bed bug must feed on a human or other warm blooded animal to move to the next stage. When born, a baby bed bug (instar) can inflict a bed bug bite in the same manner as an adult. Bed bugs can procreate in as little as 5 weeks after being born.

Just call Bug-N-A-Rug at (910) 254-9443 (our Wilmington, NC office) or (910) 754-9700 (our Brunswick County, NC office) and we'll arrange for a technician to visit your property. You're just a phone call away from saying goodbye to your unwanted Ged Bug guests forever.

Multiple home bed bug remedies are needed. Use the knock down spray to treat the underside of the drawers (Sterifab or Bug Patrol).  Then treat the inside of the furniture, including any drawer tracks.  Treat the back of the furniture as well.  If using bed bug insecticide spray, follow the use of the knock down spray with the residual spray to kill any bed bugs and bed bug eggs you might have missed.

WebMD recommends a multi-prong approach to getting rid of bed bugs. Cleaning the bed and bedding thoroughly is the first consideration. From there, homeowners should put plastic slipcovers over both the box spring and the mattress of the affected bed. Make sure that the covers are fully sealed and that they remain on the bed for longer than a full year. Clutter, holes in walls, and raised wallpaper all give bed bugs other places to hide.

11. Return Mattress and Box Spring To the Bed Frame: First apply bed bug dust (fossil dust)  in tufts, inside the box spring and other areas where bed bugs may be hiding. The dust is a natural product that will attach to the bed bugs, eventually causing death.

Evergreen Pest & Termite uses true heat treatments, which target every spot in your house. This includes behind outlets, the insides of furniture, and other hard-to-reach spaces for bed bugs in Arizona.

A bed bug can live from 10 months to about a year.  Adults can survive for just over a year without a blood meal with baby bed bugs (nymphs) surviving for several months.  In favorable temperatures (70F - 80F) bed bugs can completely develop in 30 days and can produce 3+ generations in a year.  The population can double in 16 days if the conditions are right.

Bed Bug Removal

After being relatively under control for years, bed bugs are becoming a nuisance of epidemic proportions in the USA. There are many theories as to why they have become far more common today than in years past. One reason is that we live in a global world where pests can be shared a lot easier from continent to continent.

After applying dust, place Zippered bed bug bed covers, which are  tested to be bed bug proof, over the mattress and box spring.  It is equally important to cover both.  If you can only afford one cover, cover the box spring and leave the mattress uncovered. Covers are used to trap any bed bugs and bed bug eggs you might have missed inside the mattress and box spring. Bed bugs can live for 12 months without feeding.

4. Freezing: Eggs will be killed in 10 days in freezing temperatures (some studies show this will occur in as little as 5 days).  Also a freezing spray such as a carbon dioxide spray used by professionals will kill bed bugs and eggs immediately.

Bed Bug Prices To Remove

It is important to treat and inspect every inch of an infested room.  Bed bugs are very thin and can hide in areas as thin as the width of a credit card.   Always follow the manufacturers directions over any suggestions listed here.

Thermal remediation does not require the homeowner to dispose of furniture and other items, or the laundering of all clothing / bedding. This is a standard requirement for traditional pesticide treatments.

Female adult bed bugs lay eggs daily, so they're quite prolific. The eggs are sticky and look like a speck of dust. Once the eggs hatch, the nymphs are tiny versions of adults. As the nymphs grow, the must molt in order to grow and to mature into adults. Between molts, they have to snack on human blood. Both nymphs and adults can go between months and even a year between feedings. Bed bugs do not transmit diseases to humans according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but humans can have allergic reactions to the bite of bed bugs.

A bed bug will pass through 5 stages before reaching adulthood which is the 6th stage of the bedbug life cycle. A newly hatched baby bed bug or nymph is referred to as an instar.  An instar needs a blood meal within 3 days or they will start to die, which is thought to be more a factor of dehydration than not having the blood meal.  This can happen if the egg is laid far from a host.

Bed Bug Treatment For Couch

Heat treatment has proven to be the most effective of any bed bug removal method. No liquid pesticide is required for heat treatment. This type of treatment is often completed in about 24 hours. When performed properly, it can provide 100% bed bug eradication in a single treatment for bed bugs in Arizona.

3. Wash and Dry Clothes: Washing clothes in hot water followed by at least 15 minutes in the dryer will kill all bedbugs and eggs.  When moving clothes from an infested area, be sure to carry in a plastic bag tied at the top, or a plastic bin with a snap on lid.

With heat, there is no need for ineffective liquid treatments, which may require many return visits and continuous bed bug bites. Heat can be used alone or augmented, with natural and insecticidal dusts.

We can even provide you with our industry-leading accommodation options to help you rest easy. After following our simple prep sheet, head out and let us take it off your hands. In about 24 hours’ time, we can knock these pests out and turn your bed bugs into dead bugs.

Heat Units to Kill Bed Bugs: Bed bug treatment heat involves raising the air temperatures to at least 122F, the temperature needed to kill bedbugs and bed bug eggs.  A room or entire home can be sealed and heated to the required temperature.  Fans circulate the heat so that the insides of walls and furniture such as couches are treated.   The use of heat units to kill bed bugs is called thermal remediation. Bed bug treatment heat lasts for 6 to 8 hours and is 100% effective and 100% chemical free.  The downside is the cost, although all objects in the room will be treated.

Bed Bug Treatment For Furniture

Our heating treatment has advantages over other chemical or steam home pest control services in Arizona. For example, chemicals and steam are ineffective unless they target the bed bugs’ exact location. So don’t be fooled by advertised low cost heat treatments, such as steam.

Insecticides: Similar to the recommendations listed below for do it yourself bedbug removal, a bed bug exterminator will use the combination of a knock down and residual bed bug sprays.  They will also use bed bug dust (also called fossil dust or diatomaceous earth).

Bed Bug Treatment For Dogs

With so many people traveling and staying in foreign places, these nasty little pests are often brought into our homes. As in the past, bed bugs are not just brought home from hotels. Due to hazardous amounts, people now share these bed bugs in Arizona by unknowingly taking them from one home to another.

General Bed Bug Information

Bed Bug Eradication Cost

Most professional pest exterminators prefers using water-based non-residual sprays since they are non-toxic and safe for both children and pets. One popular industrial brand that is used professionally by hotels, cleaning professionals and pest control companies is Steri-Fab, a highly effective bed bug spray know for its ability to quickly kill bed bugs and their eggs without leaving any residual or chemical trace.

Removing potential infestations from fabrics is an involved but necessary measure. Bed bugs are known to hide within the material, and must be eliminated before reusing cloths, curtains, linens, etc. The process must be carefully followed to avoid any cross contamination.

Bed Bug Prevention

Unlike other pests, a single bed bug may invade your home and never be noticed. Unfortunately, once they begin to breed, the infestation will grow quickly. Learning to identify the signs of bed bugs early on can help to shorten a sometimes long and arduous extermination process.

The bed bug (Cimex lectularius) is a parasitic insect which has been spoken of since Ancient Greece. They feed on blood and have gained their name from one of their most common dwelling places. Adults are reddish brown to light brown in color. They measure .16 to .2 inches long and .059 to .118 inches wide (about the size and shape of an apple seed), making them difficult to spot. During the 1900s, bed bugs were nearly eliminated from developed countries, but populations of pesticide-resistant bed bugs have exploded since the 1980s for reasons unknown.

Bed Bugs Limited are specialist bed bug exterminators in London. We were the first company in the world to dedicate to this one pest and ever since we have been leading the field of bed bug eradication through our unique scientific led approach.

How Much Bed Bug Extermination

Bed bug eradication often takes more than one treatment and the process can be challenging but not impossible if done properly. In the event, if you feel that you are unable to take care of the problem yourself, remember that you can always count on the help of a professional licensed bed bug exterminator who has the experience, tools and expertise to help you do the job well.

From our London offices we cover the whole of London. Cases outside of the M25 will be considered once photographically confirmed as bed bugs.  Occasionally we are even called upon to deal with cases outside of the UK traveling both to the south of France and to South America although where possible we prefer to conduct long distance work via conference calling.

Washing bed linens and clothes in hot water and then setting them in the dryer for 20 minutes will generally kill all bed bugs. Similarly, the heat from the dryer can also be use to treat items such as soft toys, stuffed animals, backpacks and any items that can fit inside the dryer.

Because we guarantee our heat treatments, every room within the property is usually treated, therefore bigger properties usually attract higher costs to heat. A heat treatment on a domestic property for a bed bug problem will usually be on a smaller scale than for a commercial property or a school for example therefore cheaper costing.

How Long Bed Bug Infestation

Our reviews are all genuine and the raw data for them can be found in our testimonials section, we don’t pay people to review us or create false reviews as we have seen others do through online processes.  Our feedback process is integrated into everything we do and we publish all of them with only the clients details removed.

However, a seven minute or longer exposure to temperatures of 115 degrees or 13 minutes at 26 degrees will kill a bedbug at any life stage. They are tolerant to low humidity, but cannot survive long periods of time exposed to high amounts of carbon dioxide.

Bed Bug Infestation Timeline

An alternative method of inspection uses dogs trained to detect bed bugs. The accuracy of canine inspections may be as high as 96 percent. Note that not every extermination company will offer this service.

When a bed bug feeds, its mouth parts penetrate the host painlessly and blood is pushed up through the feeding tube using natural pressure from the pierced blood vessel. A secondary tube injects anticoagulants into the hosts skin to prevent clotting. Once full, the bed bug retreats in order to molt or digest. Contact with the host is generally less than 20 minutes long, and feeding between five and ten minutes.

Any wooden bookshelves, desks, or other wooden furniture must be cleared off, as the bed bugs will attempt to hide between the boards. The exterminator will remove the bottom cover of box springs and couches to access potential hiding spots.

Beginning with their first nymph stage, bed bugs will feed exclusively on blood. Contrary to popular belief. they are not entirely nocturnal, feeding whenever opportunity strikes. Once a nymph has found a viable food source, it will nest somewhere close. This is the primary reason bed bugs are usually found in beds.

How Does Bed Bug Extermination Work

Take some time to inspect for signs of an infestation. Tiny black or rust colored spots from bed bug feces may be found on sheets, mattress tags, bed skirts, pillows, or seams. You may also spot bugs or shed exoskeletons during your survey.

Bed Bug Treatments For Home

These specially designed bed bug encasement covers seal off the entire mattress completely, along with a tough zipper lock leaving no gap for the bed bugs to enter or escape through. At the same time, one should also get the same protective covers for the pillows and bolster as well.

A variation on heat treatment, some professional exterminators will use a powerful steam cleaner to eradicate the bedbug infestation. These special cleaners have a high heat setting and may be used to clean everything from mattresses to curtains and even wall cracks. Water vapor penetrates materials better than other substances, and the exterminator will clean each item thoroughly, leaving no surviving eggs or bugs. While steam treatment is an effective means of exterminating bed bugs, it may take more than one pass to completely eliminate the problem.

What Is Bed Bug Extermination

Cases where disclosure has not occurred will result in an assessment fee being charged and a delay in starting the work until the case details have been submitted and reviewed.  We would also encourage people not to repeat treatments if they are not working as it can make the treatment process a lot more complex.

Given the number of panicked and anxious phone calls we receive from people worried about bed bugs, we are probably one of the few companies who can say “take a deep breath and don’t worry it’s rarely as bad as it seems”.

How Many Bed Bug Treatments Are Needed

If you want to read in more detail and fully understand the way that we work please take the time to read through the educational section before reading about the domestic or commercial services we offer.

What Does Bed Bug Extermination Cost

Another good old-fashioned, non-toxic bed bug eradication method include the use of heat. Bed bugs are very heat sensitive and cannot survive in extreme temperatures. The thermal death point for the common bed bug is 120 °F.

Able to survive temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit, it is possible to kill up to 95 percent of bedbugs after freezing at a constant 10 degrees Fahrenheit for a minimum of three days, although this is impractical.

If you have been unfortunate to be bitten by bed bugs, getting a bed bug proof mattress cover to encase your mattress is a good solution to prevent more bites and eradicate the bloodsucking critters populations that may be dwelling deep inside the mattress as well as deterring new bugs from infesting your bed. With the bed bug cover, you also don’t need to worry about replacing your existing mattress.

Bed Bug Eradication Plan

Carefully lift the mattress, bed frame, headboard, and nearby objects which bed bugs may be hiding under. These insects tend to remain within five feet of a potential food source, making the search radius smaller. Again, you may locate exoskeletons, even if there are no live bugs visible.

Bed Bugs Or Fleas In My Room?
So Far, I Have About 15 Bites For The Past 3 Weeks Ever Since My Friend's Dog Stepped In My Room. His Dog Does Have Fleas, Which Is Why I Think It Might Be Fleas. I've Washed My Bedsheets And Blanket Every Week. However, That Only Kept The Biting To A Minimal. The Bites Are Itchy And Are Either On My Legs Or Arms. I Wiped Around The Floor Near My Bed And Swept Around My Room. What Is It And How Can I Get Rid Of It?

It doesn't really sound like flea bites, since flea bites are usually on the lower legs and in areas where clothing might be tighter, such as around the waist.

There seems to be almost an epidemic of bed bugs in some places now. If they are bites from bed bugs you need to do much more than wash your sheets.

More recently, as world travel has increased, bedbugs are finding their way into the home through luggage and clothing worn abroad.

Another contributor to the resurgence of bedbugs in the West is changing pest-control practices. Sixty years ago the common use of DDT — which kills most insects — nearly eliminated bedbugs in the United States.

Today the use of DDT is being phased out due to human toxicity concerns. Further, current extermination practices are more insect-specific — what's toxic to a cockroach may not kill a bedbug.

The third link has a lot of good information about what you can do yourself to get rid of bed bugs without calling an exterminator.

Bed bugs are not native to the us - If someone in the household was recently out of the country or you received an item that was from another country then maybe but otherwise you most likely do not. A good way to identify them is by looking in the corners of the headboard. They will lay their eggs in crevices and tight corners. The eggs will appear as small black dots.

Purchasing A Used Mattress--Can You See Bed Bugs?
I Am Looking At Purchasing A Used Mattress....Can You See Bed Bugs--And Is Safe To Purchase A Used Mattress? Advice Please!! :)

Firstly, there are some signs that a mattress may be infested with bed bugs:

1. Blood stains from crushed bugs or rust spots of excrement on the mattress.

2. Eggshells and shed skins may be found in the vicinity of their hiding places - often in the folds of the mattress.

3. An offensive, sweet, musty odour from their scent glands may be detected when bed bug infestations are severe.

4. Bed bugs are difficult to see as they are nocturnal, fast moving and the way that most people know they are present is by being biten and then identifying the three signs above.

The second part of your question regarding whether it is safe to buy a used mattress, is like the other answer said no, no, no. It will not cause terminal damage to your health if you do so, however it is the thought of what might be in the mattress that is oh so off-putting for most. Not only could you be sharing your bed with bed bugs but also the dried bodily fluids of the previous occupants.

It would be better peace of mind for you if you looked into buying a new mattress, shop around and buy the best new one you can afford. If this is not feasible and you must proceed with the purchase of the second hand mattress, there are a number of things you could do to sanitise it before you use it. Such as steam cleaning it, leaving it out in the open air to release any odours and spraying it with some sort of fabric or upholstery refreasher. Once inside again, you could cover it with an antiallergy mattress protector and all should be fine.

Do Bed Bugs Get In Your Hair?
My Friend And I Saw A Bug On The Bed And We Looked It Up And It Was A Bed Bug. We Only Saw One But Is There Others In My Bed Even If There Isnt Any Holes. And Do They Get In Your Hair

Bedbugs are generally active only at dawn, with a peak feeding period about an hour before sunrise.

Attracted by warmth and the presence of carbon dioxide, the bug pierces the skin of its host with two hollow tubes. With one tube it injects its saliva, which contains anticoagulants and anesthetics, while with the other it withdraws the blood of its host.

Bedbugs can lay up to five eggs in a day and 500 during a lifetime. The eggs are visible to the eye measuring 1 mm in length (approx. two grains of salt) and are a milky-white tone. The eggs hatch in one to two weeks. The hatchlings begin feeding immediately. They pass through five molting stages before they reach maturity. They must feed once during each of these stages.

At room temperature, it takes only about five weeks for a bedbug to pass from hatching to maturity. They become reproductively active only at maturity.

I Was Staying Ata Friends House And I Had A Little Bag With Me. If The Bites Are From Bed Bugs Could They Be In My Bag? If So What Can We Do To Dispose Of Them? Please Help!!

More then likley bed bugs.. and yes they can easily travel....you need to heat your clothes in the dryer on hot for at least 45min(DO NOT WASH THEM FIRST)...commercially available bug bombs and sprays do not work..they may seem to control them at first but they will only come back stronger...they are nearly impossible and extremely expensive to get rid of...also your bed linens, blankets and sofa cushions or anywhere you've touched needs to be heated...these things are nasty! they usually come out at night and suck your blood and sometimes leave little welts on your skin but some people don't react to the bites at all?....you can't see the eggs or the babies..they like to go up to the top of the wall and ceiling to leave their droppings(it looks like dirt or thick cobb webs) it is also very easy to transfer them to others... someone can get them just by coming in and sitting on your couch or if you sleep over at someone elses house... if the heat treatments don't work call a professional immediatley but prepared to pay at least a $1000 minimum...

Can Eating Too Many Cough Drops Make You Sick?
Basically, Everyone In My House Is Or Had Just Been Sick With Something. Three Days Ago, My Brother Had A Stomach Bug, And Now I'M Stuck In Bed With A Headache, Stuffy Nose, Soar Throat, And Terrible Fatigue. The Chances I Caught A Stomach Bug Are Fairly Low, Considering The Fact I'Ve Been In My Own Room Since He Came Down With It (I Have A Weird Fear Of Puking), But At A Party I Went To Last Week, A Friend Did Have A Killer Cold, And Now Everyone At That Party (Including The Host'S Three-Year-Old Niece) Is Sick. Thanks. So Last Night And This Morning, I'Ve Been Popping Hall'S Triple Soothing Action Cough Drops Like There'S No Tomorrow. In One Hour This Morning, I Consumed About Seven, Even Though The Bag Says You'Re Only Supposed To Have One An Hour. Last Night, I Probably Had About Five In An Hour. Since About Eleven O'Clock (Twenty Minutes After I Stopped Eating Them) I'Ve Been Sort Of Nauseous And My Stomach'S Been Making Some Pretty Weird Noises. Granted, I Don'T Feel Bad Enough To Puke, But I Don'T Feel Too Great, Either. Is This From The Cough Drops, Or Some Mild Form Of My Brother'S Stomach Flu?

Yes it can make you sick. Depending on the type, some cough drops contain sorbitol which is a natural laxative, also found in some chewing gum. So it is normal you had an upset stomach. Try drinking chamomille or another herbal tea.

3. Spray the bed, box spring and mattress frame with a bed bug mattress safe spray such as Sterifab (1st source in resource).
4. Buy mattress and box spring zippered covers if you can afford them. 2nd resource is for some lower cost covers from WalMart.

6. Keep blankets off the floor making it difficult for bed bugs to climb onto the bed

According to an article I just read, yes. Bed bugs will infest books.

Putting the book in plastic zip-lock bags and leaving them in the car while the car gets very very hot may save you from having to destroy the books. Apparently freezing the books is also an option. Fumigation or a call to the Orkin man may be an option, though I worry that they do as much damage to our bodies as to the bodies of the bugs.
