Professional Bed Bug Removal

We always recommend calling a professional vs. attempting to solve a bed bug problem yourself. Professionals have the experience, equipment and access to insecticides that aren't always as easily available to home owners. The biggest downside of hiring a bed bug exterminator is cost, which can include a charge for the inspection and a separate charge for treatment. Together this can cost $750 or more. For this reason we suggest:

Don't be shy about asking questions as they move through the home. Reputable contractors should be willing and able to explain to you what they're doing, why they're doing it and how they're going to treat your problem. Some also offer or refer dog services, employing specially trained dogs to sniff out evidence of bugs.

Be advised: Sprays merely kill the adult bed bugs which means the eggs that have already been laid will hatch into the same problem approximately one month later. This is why other exterminators will tell you it will take multiple treatments

Bad Bed Bugs Bug Treatment

I have spoken with cleaning people from the local expensive hotels, and they say that they have rooms that are infested in the bed area, and in the pull out bed area of the living room. They have to spray repeatedly, and they keep coming back.

It has been two years, and I have been relieved to not deal with bedbugs, again, until 3 days ago. A visiting friend said something about the ticks in his bed. I went to see what was going on, and discovered he had unpacked his entire van, his personal effects had piled up two feet deep around the bed, plus the underside of the bed was stuffed full, plus there were clothing hanging on the curtain rods. The first things i noticed were the discolorations on the creases at the top of the insulated curtains. I didn’t remember my curtains having those dark stains. My friend had been with me six weeks, and I hadn’t been in his room. I had a hard time crawling over his things to get the the mattress and look closely. The first thing I saw on the bed were the speckles of dried blood on the pillow. Not good.

If you have a smaller bedbug infestation, it is possible to take a do it yourself approach to get rid of bed bugs.  The key to success is to inspect every inch of the room where the bed bug infestation is taking place.  The key difference to sprays etc is:

Bed Bug Infestation Treatment

Bed bug bites are not a reliable way to know if your home needs to be treated for bedbug infestations. The majority of people do not show any bite reaction. A recent study found senior citizens living in bedbug infested apartments with no bite reactions on their body. A typical bedbug infestation is comprised of 500 bugs.

4. Mattress and Box Spring Cover: Zippered bed bug mattress covers trap any late hatching or missed bed bugs inside the mattress and box spring.  Mattresses do not have to be thrown out, just covered with a zippered bed bug approved case.   Be sure to buy a cover for both the mattress and box spring.

Now that i know what works for me, and have that room caulked and painted, the bugs didn’t find furniture cracks and crevices to hide and lay their eggs. Instead, they have congregated in the clothing, the suitcase clutter surrounding the bed, and in the clothing hanging from the curtain rods. I will leave the DE down until tomorrow, and will vacuum it up four days after first putting it down for this infestation. It is 4am, I have gone into that room looking for live bugs every hour. There are no live bugs in that room at this time. This is good. This is the quickest i have been able to bring these creatures to a stop. They are so smart and resilient.

2. Chemical Based Bedbug Spray with Residual Action: There are some new and older bedbug sprays on the market that not only kill bed bugs and their eggs, but all provide some lasting protection.  We suggest purchasing Phantom bed bug spray for this purpose as it cannot be detected by bedbugs after it dries, yet will kill the for several weeks after application. This type of spray is good for spraying into cracks and crevices and around the box spring.  The spray may take several days to have a full effect since it works by killing bed bugs on contact and by interrupting the life cycle of the bed bug.

Two months later, I had a young college come and stay with me to start school in my community. He only stayed a month because he took to bringing home street people to sleep on an air mattress on the floor of the bedroom. He was feeling virtuous that he was helping the less fortunate. I was not comfortable with his charitable activities, and he left. As I was pulling the sheets from his bed I discovered three adult bed bugs. There were no sheds or obvious eggs, there was no blood load or blood trail. These bed bugs were MUCH larger and more ovular in shape than the bedbugs i did battle with downstairs. I didn’t know there were different types of bed bugs like there are different types of than the cockroaches.

Bed Bugs Treatment For Home

1. Mattress Safe Bed Bug Spray: A mattress safe spray is important since 50% of bed bugs in a room can be found on or around the bed and box spring.  Two good choices are a chemical based spray such as Sterifab or a natural organic spray such as Bug Patrol.  Both sprays will also kill bed bug eggs.

Bed Bug Infestation Treatment

I pulled back the covers and immediately saw two run. I raced back to the kitchen to fill a spray bottle with Dawn for Dishes. I have a fifty pound sack of DE i picked up from a feed store to worm the animals and myself, and to take down the flea and tick problem in the yard. It takes about six weeks to take the flea and tick infestation down to zero. Since the room is already caulked and painted from the bug war two years ago, I put the DE down along the perimeter of the room, under the mattress and box spring, and began pulling all the linens and drapes for washing and drying with Dawn for Dishes and 20 Mule Team Borax. I sprayed the ceiling fans, outlets for the electric, cable and phones with malathion.

Bed Bugs Treatment Organic

I’ve read that the way to to treat luggage is to put it into a car in the sun for an afternoon. Perfect, I’m in Florida. When I want to dry plant specimens quickly, I press them and put them in the car in the sun. Quick dry. Tomorrow I will take the DE covered luggage and have my houseguest put them back into his car in the sun. Teaching him what to do and not to do has been difficult. He was so horrified by the bugs that he started throwing his things from the floor onto another bed. NOOOOO! He wanted to throw all the furniture away, NOOOOO!. Drag an infested piece of furniture through the house means it can drop eggs as it goes and causes the risk of infestation of the rest of the house.

Purchase a Bed Bug Kit: To do the job right, you need to pull together several products.  Some are essential and some are optional, but helpful.  Here are the individual products needed.  You can save money by purchasing a group of products in a kit.  The choice of organic products or chemical is one of personal taste. Best options include:

Bed Bug Infestation Treatment

The only way for bed bugs to enter a single family home is for the bed bugs to be carried into the home by a family member.  Bed bugs only travel 100 feet in any direction of where they hop off the object that carried them into a home.

What I discovered in the local hardware stores (sprays and bombs), and local chemical store (a spray), did not work, even though they were advertised as bedbug killers. They were very expensive, and even with direct contact did not kill all the adults. The local fumigators wanted $700 to $900 to come and put a bag on my home and fumigate. I would have to vacate, taking pillows and food things out of the house for three days. And then I was going to have to do it again in ten days, and again, in ten days. So for $2100-$2700 in fumigation, plus 9 days in a hotel, i was going to have the opportunity to have someone else take care of my problem.

General Bed Bug Information

Bed Bug Pest Control Cost

As a side benefit, other harmful bacteria and mold can also be eliminated using this treatment. Although you will have to leave your house during the heat procedure, it will not cause damage to your property or possessions.

Note that not every bed bugs pest control product is mattress safe. Examples of products that cannot be used of mattresses include Demand, Dragnet, Talstar One, Onslaught and Gentrol.  Phantom is labeled for use on seams only.  The best choice for a single product that is also mattress safe is Sterifab.

Termites are beyond doubt one of the most destructive pests. The subterranean and wood inhabiting are the two general types of termites. Be it rugs or carpets, furniture, walls or foundations, termites can devour homes and cause huge financial damages. A recent report stated that the average loss from termites in the homes and residences in the Unites States is a whooping $5 billion!

Bed bug natural sprays, while providing an immediate killing effect, are less likely to provide a residual effect, so they are often used in combination with  another organic product, bed bug dust (also called fossil dust and diatomaceous earth).  These products are all natural and are mined out of the earth from ground up animal fossils.  The fine dust sticks to the outer shell of bed bugs, eventually penetrating the shell and killing the bed bug.  Silica dust is another dust product that will also work.

If you just have a small area that needs to be treated, the use of heat in a sealed chamber is also the best way to treat furniture such as a couch or sofa  and other household items that are thoroughly infested.  Many pest control companies have either a heat chamber in a remote building, or on the back of a truck that can be used to treat an item.  This is also a preferred method for purchases of used furniture such as antiques.

Carpet Beetles are a problem. Not only do they eat fabrics, some species even eat certain foods. Carpet Beetle infestations can even cause allergies, brought on by the inhalation of the small hairs that are shed by the larvae of Carpet Beetles. Carpet Beetles have even been linked to the spread of some infectious diseases, like Anthrax.

Most products available in home stores that are labeled for bed bugs do not work. These products use a relatively safe chemicals called pyrethroids. Today's bed bugs are highly resistant to pyrethroids.  The result is over use of these products. Products such as "Hot Shot" foggers are not recommended. If you do use them, check the label to avoid over use.

All treatment methods start with a thorough cleaning of the area to be treated.  Inspecting and cleaning every surface in the room is a good start. Recent studies show that as many as 80% of the pests can be found on or near the bed.

Professional pest control companies may offer several treatments to meet your needs. Spray pesticides are still common — the Environmental Protection Agency lists more than 300 products for mattress, room and whole-home elimination.

When treatment is needed, pricing will depend on the size of the area to be treated as well as the type of treatment. If standard control, using products specifically applied for bed bugs, you can expect to remove carpet edges where necessary, perhaps outlet plates and some personal belongings. If heat treatment is used in areas offering that service, certain materials must be removed such as candles, makeup, etc.

Although an average healthy person can withstand as many as ten stings per pound of his body weight; this becomes fatal if the person is allergic towards honey bees, bee stings and bee venom. In that case, even a few stings can trigger severe allergic reactions in victim's body and the victim can collapse. Then, there is the pain. In most cases it was found that the victim did not die from the large quantity of the venom introduced into his body, but from the acute pain that caused cardiac arrest.

The insecticide chlorfenapry is one of the best choices for a bed bugs pest control residual spray.  Chlorfenapry is a newer insecticide that doesn't  have repellent properties. It will kill both bed bugs and bed bug eggs on contact.  This type of product comes in a liquid and aerosol form. For home and apartment owners, Phantom is the most popular chlorfenapry brand in its aerosol form.  This product is used with a knock down such as Sterifab since it takes up to seven days to fully work.

This gives rise to such dust mite 2 allergy symptoms as drippy, runny noses, stuffy noses, coughing, sneezing, teary eyes, itchy eyes, itchy nose, itchy throat, itchy roof of mouth, chest congestion, wheezing, skin rash, post-nasal drip, chest congestion, swollen eyes, red-rimmed eyes, dark circles under the eyes, crusty eyes, and facial pressure and pain, just to name a few. Reactions to the dust mite 2 allergen can be even harder on those with asthma. Airways in the lungs can become angry, swollen, and inflamed, increasing the severity and frequency of asthma symptoms. And just in case you don't hate dust mites 2 enough already, they have also been linked to problems like rhinitis, eczema, atopic dermatitis, and, albeit loosely, SIDS.

Bed bug eggs are resistant to some bedbug sprays and will not be picked up by a vacuum since they are bound to surfaces with a cement like substance.  Heat is often used along with natural treatment options and insecticides as an effective way to kill bed bugs and bed bug eggs.

Bed Bug Pest Control Cost

The most effective way to achieve bed bug elimination is to follow an integrated pest management (IPM) principle that includes monitoring, using a combination of several treatment methods, follow-up evaluation of the results, and re-treatment until elimination. After treatment, bed bug numbers become small and more difficult to find. To avoid premature termination of treatment, use a combination of visual inspection and bed bug monitors to detect bed bugs and confirm if bed bugs are indeed eliminated. Stop treatment only when you cannot find bed bugs after using the abovementioned methods for a month. When more than a few apartments are infested in a multi-unit dwelling, a buildingwide approach will be necessary and will most likely require the experience of a pest management professional.

Also, look for a company that uses the integrated pest management (IPM) approach. Instead of relying entirely on pesticides or chemicals, IPM uses a combination of chemical measures, preventive measures, and sanitation to improve efficacy and limit environmental impact.

Since dust products rely on the bed bug crossing through a dust field, it needs to be thinly applied in cracks and crevices with a duster.  The added advantage of bed bug dust is that it will have a long residual effect if left undisturbed.  Also note that some bed bug dust products have insecticides mixed into the dust.

The conditions of each property are different, and therefore the problems are different for each house. Thus, quotes and estimates for the cost of bed bug control are best done locally and perhaps after an inspection by a qualified Pest Specialist.

Most organic or natural bed bug spray products kill bed bugs  using plant extracts such as Euginia Carophylla, Mentha Piperita, and Sodium Lauryl Sulphate which is made using oconut extract.  Examples of popular organic sprays are Bed Bug Killer and All Stop.

If you are treating bed bugs at home or in an apartment, only use products that are labeled for indoor use and that specifically state that they are for killing bed bugs. Read labels carefully since some indicate that the products can be used on mattresses while others cannot.

Structural fumigation is your last choice; this involves completely tarping your home and evacuating it for several days. During the process, gas is released to permeate every inch of the house, including behind walls and under floors.

These products kill the bed bugs when the bug comes in contact with the poison. After spraying the killing effect lasts for several weeks. These products are made from chrysanthemum flowers (pyrethoids). They are not always effective since they can work as an insect repellent, so instead of the bed bugs entering the area treated, they might avoid it. There has also been reports of bed bugs developing a resistance to this product. For most problems, using pyrethoids will be an effective method when deciding how to kill bed bugs. Products that contain pyrethrin usually come in the form of a pump or aerosol spray (565 Plus XLO, Bedlam, Cb 80 Extra brand).

Sterifab is widely considered to be the best mattress safe knock down spray for bed bugs pest control. A knock down spray is ideal for killing bed bugs and bed bug eggs on contact.  It uses a synthetic pyrethroid combined with alcohol.  Follow up treatment using a spray that provides lasting protection by creating an invisible barrier such as Phantom.

Human lice are blood-sucking nuisances and a cause of social embarrassment. In the U.S., the head louse is by far of greatest importance because of its common and widespread occurrence, especially among children.

Don't be shy about asking questions as they move through the home. Reputable contractors should be willing and able to explain to you what they're doing, why they're doing it and how they're going to treat your problem. How Much Does Bed Bug Extermination Cost?

A bedbug extermination expert can cost up to $500 for an initial inspection and quote (particularly if a dog is used) and then $500 to $1000+ for the bed bug s pest control treatment itself.  We suggest starting with an exterminator as they can be a source of advice and education, even if you decide to do it yourself.

How Is It Possible They Can Hybernate That Long? Are They Born Pregnant Or What?

One of the most widespread areas in which the the infestation may be seen are often the areas in which folks snooze including bed furniture, settees, bed mattresses and even bedroom pillows. How Can I Get Rid Of Bed Bugs When I Dont Have Money?
The House I Live In With My Grandparents Has A Really Bad Problem With Bed Bugs. They'Re In My Wooden Frame And Im Too Disgusted To Even Dismantle The Frame And Throw It Away. I Just Found Out Today So I Probably Wont Even Be Able To Sleep At All.. We Don'T Have Enough Money For Any $300+ Exterminators Or Anything And All The Home Remedies Are Bs.

You can get rid of bed bugs with baking soda.

Buy about 10 boxes of baking soda. And you'll need more later. You might want to buy in bulk. This site seems to be reasonable: http://www.camdengrey.com/essential-oils...

Costco usually carries large bags of baking soda, too.

Start with one room at a time...maybe your bedroom.

1. Vacuum. Then sprinkle the baking soda everywhere on the floor. Make sure you put a good coating around and under the bed. Spread the baking soda with a broom, so you have a fairly even coating. Just leave the baking soda on the floor. Do not vacuum.

2. Remove all sheets and comforters. Wash these in detergent and Hot water. Dry thoroughly.

3. Vacuum the bed extremely well.

4. If you can afford to replace the mattress, replace it. If not, buy a bed bug mattress cover, like these: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&tbm=shop&sc...

I'm sure you can find these at Walmart and Kmart if you'd rather not buy on line.

Sprinkle baking soda directly on your mattress before putting the mattress cover on. Make sure you flip the mattress in order to coat both sides with baking soda. Also use a generous amount of baking soda at the edges and in creases. Bed Bugs love the creases at the edges of the mattress. After coating with baking soda, you then put the mattress cover on and just leave it on...do not remove it for a year.

5. Wrap duct tape or Gorilla Tape around the bed legs STICKY SIDE OUT. This way the bugs will get stuck trying to get to you. Another alternative is to buy some peel and stick tiles and place the feet of your bed on these. (Place a little square of paper towel directly under the feet of the bed to keep the feet from sticking to the tiles.) Place the tiles sticky-side up, so the bugs will get stuck on the tiles. Change the tape or tiles as needed.

Alternatively you can place the feet of your bed in bed bugs traps, such as these:

http://www.amazon.com/Climbup-Insect-Int...

6. Pull the bed away from the wall so that it does not touch.

7. Remake the bed, but never allow sheets or comforters to touch the floor.

After a week, vacuum the floors and re-apply the baking soda. (Just leave the mattress covers on.)

Treat all bedrooms this way. Also treat any room that you suspect harbors bed bugs. Treat for a full year. Yes, a year! Bed bugs are extremely hardy and it will take a full year of all out war to get rid of them.

Your bedrooms will look a little funny with baking soda all over the floors, but it beats the alternative.

I would use baking soda, as opposed to Diatomaceous Earth (DE). DE works, but DE also cuts lungs in both people and pets, so it's dangerous. Baking soda is gentle on people and pets but will kill the bed bugs.

I would also use baking soda as opposed to Borax. Borax is a poison that is harmful to people and pets. Plus it has been banned in many countries.

Good luck.

I Found Two Bugs In My Bed, Is It Bed Bugs?
I Cant Get A Clear Picture, And I Cant Find Anything Similar On Google. Ive Looked At Pictures Of Bed Bugs And It Doesn'T Look The Same. Its Body And Its Head Are Not Separate, It Doesn'T Have Segments. Its Just One Oval With Black On The Top Where The Head Is And Brown Body. It Moves Pretty Fast. The Large One Is About 1/8 Of A Pencil Eraser. The Other Just A Little Smaller. I Think They Have Wings Because Parts Of Their Backs Keep Coming Apart Like They Are Trying To Fly Inside The Baggy. I Am Hoping This Isnt Bedbugs Because My Daughter Just Brought Home Lice And That Was Hard Enough! (It Doesnt Look Anything Like Lice Either)

Bed bugs absolutely do not fly. They don't even have wings. If your bugs fly, then don't worry about it being bed bugs.

My Guinea Pigs Have These Bugs In Their Cage What Can I Do?
My Guinea Pigs Keep Getting These Bugs With Pincers On Their Bums In Their Cage, And I Only Cleaned Them Out Three Days Ago. I Clean Them Out Every Wednesday Without Fail. I Hate Them Being In The Cage Because My Guinea Pigs Are Uncomfortable.

Bathe them. If you don't know how visit this step by step link:
www.wikihow.com/Wash-Your-Guinea-Pigs
Then clean out their cage compleatly head to toe. As well wash the cage out with mild disenfectant (as always). Try buying front line spot on which is a cream/ spray you put on the neck of your guineas. It will smell bad to lice and flees, and hopefully the bugs that affect you pets.

Did I Get Bed Bugs Still?
So I Had My House Heat Treated But Still Found 3 Alive Bed Bugs In About A Week Or So, So I Threw My Mattress Away Because I Wanted To Throw It Away Anyway, Even If I Didn'T Have Bed Bugs, And When I Threw It Away I Held It Up Over The Carpet I Didn'T Drag It, But When I Went Out On The Hallway, Becasue I Live In An Apartment, I Dragged It, But Not Right At The Doorstep, Like Halfway Through The Hallway Because I Dropped It, So I'M Like, I Might As Well Drag Because Im Close To The Elevator, So Does Anyone Think That A Bed Bug Could Have Crawlled Out, Even Though All The Bed Bugs That I Have Seen Where Dead? And Also, Just Because I Threw Away My Matress, Does That Give Me A Less Chance To Have Bed Bugs In My Room, Because Im Not Going To Get Another Mattress For Another Month Or So, And Il Most Likely Have Another Heat Treatment Done, Just In Case, So Does That Mean That The Bed Bugs Have A Higher Chance Of Dying Since There Is No More Mattress? And How About The Spreading? Sorry For All This Writing

I have some experience living in a building with bbugs, though I never got infested myself mostly because it was a concrete slab building with *tons* (literally) of separation between apts. There were a few cases where they traveled through wall/ceiling to get from one apt to another. We had several meetings with the housing folks and the local health department to talk about it.

I'd never herd of heat treatment, so I looked it up and it looks like a great idea.

I think if you saw '3 in a week,' and they were -not- 'newborn' size, that -your- apt was sufficiently cleared, but they are coming from other apartments.

I think that dragging your mattress out had little to do with anything. The mattress was clean when treated and didn't drop any eggs or bugs because there were none in a viable state.

Bbugs have been known to travel up to 100' to find a meal! The -worst- cast is if there's an infested apartment, that the tenants move out, and the buglets have to travel around to find a meal.

There are four really good things you can do to prevent reinfestation. This is important because if they can't find a meal in your apartment, they will not hang around. *But* bugs can still come around to 'explore' and look for a meal.

First is to seal all unnecessary openings in walls, electrical outlets, light fixtures, plumbing, tiny-tiny cracks around door frames and widows.

Second line of defense is openings that you must have - doors and windows. Put down double-sided tape designed to trap them when they walk in under a door or through a gap in a window.

Third is traps that you put your bed frame legs in.

Last is personal vigilance. As I said it's not just you - it's very likely that other apts are also harboring fugitive bbugs. Further, utility areas can hide them and those areas will never be treated. You need to be careful about what other apts you go to, what you do in other apts, and even walking through halls. The bldg I was in, they had full-on pro exterminators brought in to treat the lobbies and other common areas. This one bug guy impressed me when, as he -left- the building, he stamped his feet off. He was shaking off any errant *eggs* that might've gotten attached to his shoes, to prevent bringing them into his truck, or back to the shop, or home.

You can get clean and stay clean, but it's a lot of work. GL with that.

Bed Bugs? I Feel Extremely Overwhelmed.. Help?
Where Do I Begin... So, Apparently, We'Ve Had Bed Bugs For Awhile Now And They'Ve Been In My Parents Room Mostly. Ever Since I Slept In Their Bed (About 3 Weeks Ago) We'Ve Had A Huge Outbreak With Them And I'M Completely Freaking Out Because I Think We Will Never Be Able To Get Rid Of Them. I Hate Bugs So Much And Bed Bugs Are Just The Grossest Thing You Could Sleep With. Is There Any Possible Way To Quickly Get Rid Of Them? I Have High Anxiety Problems And I'M Really Freaking Out Right Now, I Feel Overwhelmed And Trapped In This Situation. Any Help Is Very Much Appreciated!

I'm a cleaning professional in the NY area. My work involves the controlling of bed bugs without the use of pesticides, which may or may not be harmful to the pest, but likely harmful to you.
If you are suffering from bedbugs, I strongly suggest use of very thorough cleaning methods before the use of any toxic pesticides. You want 6 hp (11 amp) or 6.5 hp (12 amp) wet dry vac as a minimum to get more than 170 cfm & more than 66" of water lift, basically how much & how hard is the air flow. The little bugs have no chance against that much power. When you are done, remove the bag and discard in the outside trash, preferably just before the trash is hauled away, to minimize re-infestation.
You have to clean EVERYTHING and EVERYWHERE or nothing will work. The means mattresses, that means box springs, that means remove the fabric and inside the box springs. That mean where the carpet tucks into the walls. In and under all furniture. Even vacuum the power outlets. Of course every inch of carpet.

This alone may take care of the problem. This is what pest control companies are going to do with a vacuum designed for the pest control industry that has 2x the power of the one I will suggest. You simply can not skip the cleaning.
You may want to use pesticides after you have truly cleaned at least twice, but keep up with the cleaning, it has so many other health benefits.

Bed Bug Suspected...Please Help...??
Okay I Went Searching And Think Ive Found Our Culprit, Bedbugs. Oh My How In The World Did We Get These Things???? My Husband Is An Over The Road Truck Driver And Has Been Gone For 3 Months, Its Only My Infant Son And I Who Sleep In My Bed, We Wake Every Morning With Welts That Look Like Mosquito Bites On Face, Arms Legs, Etc. We Havent Ever Slept In Another Bed And Havent Traveled At All. My Daughter Sleeps In Her Own Bed And Has No Such Symptoms. How Could We Have Gotten Bed Bugs And How In The World Do I Get Rid Of Them Without Replacing The Matress. And Were Goin On Vacation Here Soon, Will We Transprot These Bugs With Us Unintentionally??

My friend thought she had bed bugs too. Before the exterminator could come out, he told them to ...
1) take all the sheets, bedding, ect, off the bed and put it in a garbage bag. Basically, suffercaite them.
2) take duct tape and tape around the door to your bed room, so they wont go to any other room. You have to tape all the way around the frame. And tape it so the sticky part is up. (this way if they walk on it, they will get stuck) Even put tape on the floor so they cant get out that way.
3) dont enter the room untill the bug guys comes to clear it out. My friend thought she had bed bugs, and it turned out that it was bugs from the bats. (bats decided to make a nest in the side of their house.)

After How Long Without Symptoms Should I Assume That There Aren'T Bed Bugs?
I Was Bit In The Wrist Area Twice, And One On My Jaw Area Last Friday Night. They Are Incredibly Itchy. I Haven'T Been Bitten Since, And I Know It'S Just Monday. There Are No Signs Of Eggs, Feces, Or Bugs Anywhere. I Don'T Even Know If They'Re Bed Bug Bites, But I Live In Oregon Where It'S 30 Degrees So It Can'T Be Mosquitos, And I Don'T Own Any Pets, And Haven'T Traveled Anywhere. I'Ve Gotten So Paranoid, To The Point Where I Take A Flashlight To Bed And Basically Wake Up Every Hour To Check The Bed For Bugs. I'Ve Vaccuumed My Whole Room As Well. How Long Without Symptoms (Bites, Eggs, Etc...) Should I Assume That They Weren'T Bed Bugs?

The bed bug life cycle is 10 to 12 days. So figure that if you see no signs of bed bugs in 2 weeks, you are free of the problem. Another tip is to place bed bug traps on each bed leg such as climbup interceptors. If the traps stay bed bug free, you are also in the clear (see second resource for source).

if you can prove that the infestation was there BEFORE you moved in then yes, but usually bed bugs come in on a host so you most likely or someone that visited you brought it in. in other words, its not the fault of the land lord so can you break your lease? yes, but you wont get any type of deposit back

Are These Bed Bugs...?
We Just Moved Into A Motel 2 Weeks Ago, And I'Ve Been Getting These Bug Bites All Over Without Ever Seeing The Little Pests. The Bug Bites That Appear On My Arms And Legs Always Show Up In Groups Of Threes Or Fours, In A Neat Row (This Was What Made Me Think It Was Bed Bugs), Yet When I Stay Up All Night Looking For Them, None Appear. There Are Tiny Black Dots On The Bed Sheets That Are About The Size Of A Grain Of Sand, And I Don'T Know If That'S The Shell Or Droppings Or Just Plain Dirt. My Parents Slept In The Same Bed, And Yet They Didn'T Find Any Problems. The Bites Often Wake Me Up In The Middle Of The Night Because They'Re So Itchy And It'S Driving Me Crazy! Are These Bed Bugs??

Seems so.

The only way to know for sure if you have bed bugs, is to produce an actual sample of the bug itself. Do not automatically assume that any bite-like mark is a bed bug bite.

These insects will often go undetected. It is best to have a highly trained professional conduct the inspection for you.

Occasionally you may see evidence of a bed bug infestation without actually seeing any bed bugs. Bed bugs leave fecal stains in the areas they inhabit. These stains are actually partially digested blood but remember that it will not be red unless you crush a bed bug that has just recently fed. As the blood is digested it turns black and therefore the bed bug droppings usually consist of several black spots in one area. The fecal spots will not flake off if rubbed and will smear if wiped with a wet rag.

How Do I Get Rid Of Bed Bugs In My Home Without Using Pesticides?
I Have Small Children, One That Is Handy Capped And Can Not Afford To Move Out My House For A Few Days If I Call A Pesticide Company Or If I Choose To Put Out Bombs In The Bedrooms. I Am Looking For Something That Really Works, I Don'T Have To Leave My Home And Is Safe For The Kids. Any Help Would Be Appreciated. I Have Seen Some Companies On The Internet Advertise For Non Toxic Safe Solutions; But Do These Really Work?

You can try using Bed Bug Powder. There's a special right now, Buy 2 get 1 free. Its safe to use around children and pets. Its also at an affordable price. Unlike chemicals, this powder works mechanically by that I mean that it cuts through the bed bug's skin killing it quickly. Chemicals dont work as well because once they dry, the bugs come back and bugs also become immune to them. The powder uses small razor blades to cut through the bugs.

A Bug With Red Blood?
Well Today I Was About To Lay Down On My Bed, But By Like 10 Inches Away From My Face, I Saw A Bug That Looked Like Any Normal Bug. With My Instinct, I Quickly Took A Paper And Crushed It. I Looked Closely At The Blood It Left On My Wall. It Was Really Red, But The Bug Didn'T Look Red On The Outside. More Like Blackish Kind Of Color. Didn'T Look Like The Average Size Of A Baby Or Adult Size Of A Bed Bug.

It was provably a cochineal. its an animal that lives on cactus and spills a LOT of red blood when it is crushed. It is used to dye clothes and even food. It is very special, too, because it changes to a total of 5 different colors if you mixit with common substances (lemon, alcohol, etc.)

How Can I Get Rid Of Bed Bugs? Need Help Asap?
Ok My Girl And I Have Been Waking Up With Weird Bites On Our Legs Arms And Backs. At First We Thought It Was A Mosquito But It Just Kept Bitting Us. I'M Trying To Find A Way Around An Exterminator Because Money Is Kind Of Tight

You can get rid of the bed bugs with baking soda.

If not, buy a bed bug mattress cover, like these: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp=ldym...

I'm sure you can find these at Walmart and Kmart if you'd rather not buy on line. It's a good idea to sprinkle baking soda directly on your mattress before putting the mattress cover on.

5. Wrap duct tape or Gorilla Tape around the bed legs STICKY SIDE OUT. This way the bugs will get stuck trying to get to you. Another alternative is to buy some peel and stick tiles and place the feet of your bed on these. (Place a little square of paper towel directly under the feet to keep the feet from sticking to the tiles.) Place the tiles sticky-side up, so the bugs will get stuck on the tiles. Change the tape or tiles as needed.

6. Pull the bed away from the wall so that it does not touch.

7. Remake the bed, but never allow sheets or comforters to touch the floor.

After a week, vacuum the floors and re-apply the baking soda. Just leave the mattress covers on.

Treat all bedrooms this way. Also treat any room that you suspect harbors bed bugs. Treat for a full year. Yes, a year! Bed bugs are extremely hardy and it will take a full year of all out war to get rid of them.

Yes, your bedrooms will look a little funny with baking soda all over the floors, but it beats the alternative.

I would use baking soda, as opposed to Diatomaceous Earth (DE). Yes, DE works, but DE also cuts human lungs, so it's dangerous. Baking soda is gentle on people but will kill the bed bugs.

Also, Borax is also poisonous to people and pets...and in fact is not even sold in many countries for that very reason. Baking soda is not poisonous to people or pets, but it will kill the bed bugs.

Good luck.

Help! How To Kill Bed Bugs?!?
I Just Found Out I Have Bed Bugs. I'M Not Sure How Far They'Ve Spread In My Home, I'Ve Only Seen Them In One Room. I'Ve Been Searching Online For Ways To Kill The Living Nightmares, And Came Across Diatomaceous Earth. I Bought Some Yesterday And After Vaccuming The Floor, Put It Everywhere On The Floor, And Even The Bed. But I'Ve Also Read That Bed Bugs Are Almost Impossible To Kill Without Proffesional Help, Which I Can'T Afford. Anyone Know Of Anything Else That Will Help (In Case The Diatomaceous Earth Doesn'T)?

I cant prove this using any source but it worked for me. Grow a lot of plants at home. Apparently, the Carbon Di Oxide that plants absorb during the day and releasing Oxygen isn't favorable for bed bugs. I had a lot of indoor plants at home and never had bed bug problems again - Try this apart from heat treating all the stuff at home..

I Have Dry Bumps On Skin?
There Only Some But There Scattered ?Not Together Like Three In One Hand To In The Other And Like Five In My Back And There All Scattered.. . There Light Light Brown In Color And No They Have No Peeling Process.. What Are They? Should I Worry? Bed Bugs Maybe? Help Please ?! They Do Not Itch. And There Like Flat Bumps ..With Little Tiny Bumps On Them.

You cannot determine by the bump without going to a doctor and even they might have to do some testing. Bed bugs are more easily determined by finding the bed bugs. If you have bed bugs there should be some evidence. Look on mattress especially around the rope border of mattress. Look in crevices of furniture. Look for exoskeletons, dots (blood poop), or bed bugs. Adult bed bugs resemble half tic/half roach. Baby bed bugs are clear with red blood dot in belly and kinda resemble a small clear spider. Visit bedbugger.com for more info as this is the most helpful site. If you look where I said to look and don't find anything, then it is probably something else. And if it is thank God for that because bed bugs are HORRIBLE.

How Do Bed Bugs Get In Your Home?
Because Bed Bugs hide in small crevices, they may accompany luggage, furniture, clothing, pillows, boxes, and other such objects as stowaways when moved between apartments, homes and hotels. Used furniture, particularly bed frames and mattresses, are of greatest risk of harboring bed bugs and their eggs. Thus, you should carefully scrutinize and consider the history of any used furniture, particularly ‘street’ items so plentiful at the beginning and end of each academic year. Because they readily survive for many months without feeding, Bed Bugs may already be present in apparently ‘vacant’ and ‘clean’ apartments. Bed Bugs can wander between adjoining apartments through voids in walls and holes though which wires and pipes pass.
This was some information off of the second website.from what ive read about them they were probably in the walls when you moved in. i hope this helps. i so glad i read this i had no clue bed bugs could bite you. I thought they were no harm but after reading some of this i would leave everything, but the stuff you do bring with you i would clean and sanitize real good hope things get better

I Have Bed Bugs In My Apartment, Help Please?
I Moved In My Apartment With My Infant In October, I Have Been Getting Bit A Lot Leaving Marks All On My Body. I Thought At First They Was Mosquito Bites But Then I Start Researching On The Internet And Found Bed Bugs. I Immediately Reported This To My Apartment And They Came In And Done And Inspection And Said That I Have Spiders. They Sprayed Feb 8 And Then Feb 28 Again. I Am Still Getting Bit All Over. Finally I Caught The Sucker And Gave It To The Lease Office, They Finally Admitted That I Had Bed Bugs. After Talking With Maintenance And Etc., I Found Out They Had An Issue Prior To Me Moving In. Can I Sue!

If you can get maintenance to admit to management that there was a previous bedbug issue in your unit, you can demand that the apartment complex have the creatures eradicated at management's expense. Can you sue ? For WHAT ? You have been bitten a few times, with no permanent injury. You need to show some sort of financial loss before you can sue successfully. Simply demand a remediation of the bedbugs. If that fails, then you can break your lease without penalty.

DOCUMENT all communications with management, in the event that you need to go to court to end the lease contract.
