Clermont Indiana Bed Bug Pest Control Treatment
Professional Bed Bug Removal
We always recommend calling a professional vs. attempting to solve a bed bug problem yourself. Professionals have the experience, equipment and access to insecticides that aren't always as easily available to home owners. The biggest downside of hiring a bed bug exterminator is cost, which can include a charge for the inspection and a separate charge for treatment. Together this can cost $750 or more. For this reason we suggest:
Don't be shy about asking questions as they move through the home. Reputable contractors should be willing and able to explain to you what they're doing, why they're doing it and how they're going to treat your problem. Some also offer or refer dog services, employing specially trained dogs to sniff out evidence of bugs.
Be advised: Sprays merely kill the adult bed bugs which means the eggs that have already been laid will hatch into the same problem approximately one month later. This is why other exterminators will tell you it will take multiple treatmentsBed Bug Pest Control Treatment
I immediately treated the perimeter of the room with malathion to prevent an escape into the rest of the house (baseboard cracks, window frames, door frames, plus turned off the electric to that room and removed all the electrical covers, cable cover, and phone cover). I replaced the covers, caulked and painted. I sprayed the ceiling fan motor with malathion. I waited a day, again, to turn the power back on to the room, giving everything time to dry. Then I did the entire room as i had done the downstairs. This was a metal framed bed, so i did not caulk and paint it. I stayed out of the room for ten days. The Dawn for Dishes / water mix i had found effective once again killed all the adults with whom it came in contact. After ten days, I returned to the room and checked for bugs. I found another three adults on the edge of the box spring, against the metal frame. I sprayed them with the Dawn for Dishes mix, and they all died immediately. I had no further problem in that room.
Have you been searching for how to get rid of bed bugs? Once an afterthought, these pests have made quite the resurgence recently. The more you know about bed bugs, the better your chances of avoiding them.
All treatment methods start with a thorough cleaning of the area to be treated. Inspecting and cleaning every surface in the room is a good start. Recent studies show that as many as 80% of the pests can be found on or near the bed.
I have spoken with cleaning people from the local expensive hotels, and they say that they have rooms that are infested in the bed area, and in the pull out bed area of the living room. They have to spray repeatedly, and they keep coming back.

If you just have a small area that needs to be treated, the use of heat in a sealed chamber is also the best way to treat furniture such as a couch or sofa and other household items that are thoroughly infested. Many pest control companies have either a heat chamber in a remote building, or on the back of a truck that can be used to treat an item. This is also a preferred method for purchases of used furniture such as antiques.

Having isolated the creatures in the one bedroom, taken out the exits with poison (yes, I hated it, but i wanted a quick, thorough kill, not a gradual die off that would allow the females to drop eggs as they were running to other parts of my home to die. I then caulked every floorboard, window frame, and the frames in the bed and furniture. I caulked and painted the furniture to completely seal the furniture. I put two new layers of paint on the walls and ceiling. I vacuumed daily for six weeks. The war lasted 6 weeks, eighteen hour days. Thank God i am self employed and was able to carve out that time, more than ten percent of that year, to handle the bug problem.

The insecticide chlorfenapry is one of the best choices for a bed bugs pest control residual spray. Chlorfenapry is a newer insecticide that doesn't have repellent properties. It will kill both bed bugs and bed bug eggs on contact. This type of product comes in a liquid and aerosol form. What I discovered in the local hardware stores (sprays and bombs), and local chemical store (a spray), did not work, even though they were advertised as bedbug killers. They were very expensive, and even with direct contact did not kill all the adults. The local fumigators wanted $700 to $900 to come and put a bag on my home and fumigate. I would have to vacate, taking pillows and food things out of the house for three days. And then I was going to have to do it again in ten days, and again, in ten days. So for $2100-$2700 in fumigation, plus 9 days in a hotel, i was going to have the opportunity to have someone else take care of my problem.

In doing research i discovered that malathion is one of the pesticides on the market that still works, and it it not available in my county. I found it online from a plant nursery in the north, and had it shipped in to Florida. The first thing i did was the edges of the room, the doors frames, the window frames, and then the a/c vents. I turned off the power to the room (best to turn off all power!) and took off all electrical covers, phone line cover and the cable tv jack cover. I sprayed Malathion into all the openings in the wall. I sprayed along the baseboards. I sprayed the spline edges on the screens.
For home or apartment use, the most popular spray is called Bedlam. It is a water based insecticide that kills bed bug eggs, bed bugs on contact, and that provides some residual killing effect for one or more weeks on sprayed surfaces. If you want to try home treatment, this is the product to use.

Bed Bug fumigation is similar to fogging, but is more intense and lasts for 1 day. A high dose of insecticide is used to not only kill bed bugs, but the eggs as well. Vikane is one brand commonly used. This approach requires have a pest control license and special equipment. All bed bugs will be killed with this approach and is used to rid an entire building of pests. The advantage of fumigation is that it is effective, while negatives include cost and having to leave home. Note encased plastic mattresses cannot be fumigated. Another fumigation approach is to place belongings into a container or truck which is then fumigated to ensure that all bed bugs are killed, such as a mattress.

It has been two years, and I have been relieved to not deal with bedbugs, again, until 3 days ago. A visiting friend said something about the ticks in his bed. I went to see what was going on, and discovered he had unpacked his entire van, his personal effects had piled up two feet deep around the bed, plus the underside of the bed was stuffed full, plus there were clothing hanging on the curtain rods. The first things i noticed were the discolorations on the creases at the top of the insulated curtains. I didn’t remember my curtains having those dark stains. My friend had been with me six weeks, and I hadn’t been in his room. I had a hard time crawling over his things to get the the mattress and look closely. The first thing I saw on the bed were the speckles of dried blood on the pillow. Not good.

During the first infestation, I was traveling for school, and opted to sleep in my car in rest stops rather than in hotels or at friend’s homes because i did not want to risk passing the infestation on. I didn’t know then what i have read on line tonight about the car heat killing the bugs.

Then I spread food grade diatomaceous earth all over the floor. I sprayed bleach on the mattresses, and the bugs did not die. I put three adults on a paperplate and sprayed different things on them and 1 out of 3 would die, and the other 2 would get up, wave at me, and attempt to walk away. I crushed them. I then mixed Dawn for Dishes 1/5 soap and 4/5 water. I got an immediate 100% kill rate on the adults.

They should complete a thorough inspection to determine whether you really have bed bugs. How Much Bed Bug Exterminator
There are a total of 8 expectations any good bed bug exterminator should meet before you write them a check or allow them to start any kind of treatment on your home. Here's a quick overview of the most basic ones.
When an exterminating company comes to survey your premises, they are looking for an adult bed bug that is about 1/4 of an inch in length. From above they are oval in shape, but are flattened from top to bottom. Their color ranges from nearly white (just after molting) or a light tan, to a deep brown or burnt orange type of color. The host’s blood may appear as a dark red or black mass within the bug’s body. The hatchling bed bugs are about the size of a poppy seed and cast skins of these bugs are sometimes discovered.

How Long Does Bed Bug Extermination Last
Bed bugs will by nature seek out a host at night. Once a person or animal is available, this insect will painlessly sip a few drops of blood. It is reported that 50% of people are sensitive or become sensitive to bed bug saliva. Additional bites over the course of days or weeks may then result in mild to intense allergic responses. As fate would have it, the skin lesions produced by the bite of a bed bug resembles those caused by many other kinds of blood feeding insects, such as mosquitoes and fleas. So the offending insect, therefore, can’t be identified by the appearance of the bites alone. The affected person should resist the urge to scratch the bites, as this may intensify the irritation and itching, and may lead to secondary infection. Physicians often treat patients with insect bites with antihistamines and corticosteroids to reduce allergic reactions and inflammation.
To start with, make sure you're only considering reputable exterminators with proper credentials. They must be licensed pest control operators and should be members of local, state, or the National Pest Management Association (the link takes you to their search by zipcode function). Don't forget to check out each company you're considering at your local Better Business Bureau.
Bed Bugs Preparing For Exterminator
If you've tried to get rid of bed bugs on your own...and made a critical mistake like using a bed bug fogger (aka "bug bomb")...then you really need the help of an exterminator that truly knows bed bugs - because you've made your situation much, much worse!
Can't Afford Bed Bug Extermination
If you've decided to hire a professional bed bugs exterminator, that's a good choice. But, now you need to make the right choice about which pro to use. Believe it or not, making the right choice regarding which exterminator you use is much more important than you might think.
They should also be clear on the cost of the treatment (give you a written estimate) and what exactly that includes. Bed bug extermination often requires multiple treatments. So it should be explicitly stated whether (and how many) subsequent treatments are included and what intervals. Any guarantees should also be clearly spelled out.
Confirm that the company has specific bed bug experience and ask them to describe their approach. For example some companies use freezing or heat to kill bed bugs (steam or forced hot air), others use bed bug dogs to sniff them out (a very effective approach for confirming an infestation). If they use a dog, be sure you are home to visually confirm the presence of bed bugs after the dog finds some.
Why? Well for starters, bed bug infestations are usually very difficult to deal with. So calling in a pro if you can all afford it just makes sense. It will save you a lot of headache and hassle. They have access to the tools and techniques that are most effective, so they can help you get rid of bed bugs much more quickly than you could do it on your own. Then of course there's the "peace of mind" factor.

Bed bugs can be found often by looking for black stains or smears on beds, which are the bugs’ droppings. Sometimes an engorged bug is accidentally killed or disgorged by accidental crushing, resulting in a visible blood stain. They hide in cracks and crevices of a room including furniture, moldings, outlets, and carpeting. They generally stay as close to the host (you) as possible. At Positive Pest Management, we take great pride in our organization and strongly believe that our services should always exceed our customer’s expectations. Our highly competent professional staff is always eager to help you with any of your exterminating needs.

How To Prepare Bed Bug Extermination
Treatment costs vary based on the methods used and the size of the infestation. A good rule of thumb is $500 to $1000 per room. If an entire home is treated with heat, then estimates can go as high as $4,000. Insecticide or freezing type treatments will cost less.
How To Choose Bed Bug Exterminator
You could easily end up spending as much or more money by trying to do it yourself. Especially if you make some of the common mistakes. Plus, some types of bed bug extermination techniques, like whole house heat treatments, can only be done using specialized equipment that has to be operated by a pest control pro.

Frequently Asked Questions About Bed Bug Removal:
How Can I Stop Being Paranoid About Bed Bugs?
I Had To Deal With A Bed Bug Infestation Last Week. Even Though An Exterminator Came In And I Washed All My Stuff, I'M Still Very Paranoid. I'Ve Been Vacuuming Every Day, I Keep Spraying Alcohol On My Couch, I Have Trouble Falling Asleep In My Bed, During The Day I Keep Scratching And Imagining Itches, I Spend A Lot Of Time At Work Searching For Bed Bug Remedies And Repellents... Every Time I See A Dark Spot Or Speck I Freak Out, Even If It'S Just A Piece Of Lint Or Dirt. What Can I Do To Ease My Own Fears?
I had the same experience before as you are going through now.
In my case, even though I spent $$$ on exterminators, bed bugs kept coming back. And I tried sprays all over my house, but did not work.
I studied and found out that sprays do not work on bed bugs unless you spray directly on bed bugs. I think that is what the exterminator did as well. Using alcohol is the same. What happens is the sprays and alcohol dry up so quickly that the toxin is gone by the time bed bugs come back.
Then one of my friends told me about bed bug powder. You can buy it online for only $12 or something like that. All you need to do is just to sprinkle the powder on the infected areas. It says when bed bugs walk over the powder, the powder actually cuts bugs' shell (body). The powder is like lazer to bugs. I was doubtful of the powder at the begenning (too good to be true!!) but it worked!
I am still using the powder even though those nasty bed bugs are gone. It just gives me peaceful nights not worrying about the bites!!
Did A Bug Lay Eggs In My Pillow?
Two Nights Ago, I Saw This Small Worm/Centipede Like Bug On My Pillow. It Was White-Ish And Had A Brown Head (Or Butt). It Was Right In The Middle Of My Bed, And I Don'T Know How It Got There. When I Took A Tissue And Lifted It Off My Pillow, It Seemed Like It Pulled Out Some Of The Fabric, Because It Was Stuck To One End. Now I'M Looking At My Pillow, And There Are Two Teeny Tiny Dark Dots Where I Think The Bug Was. I Don'T Know If They Were There Before Or If It Is The Bugs Feces, Or My Worst Fear, It Layed Eggs In My Pillow. Help Please? What Should I Do If It Is Eggs?
Also, Do You Think There Is More In My Bed? I Checked And Did Not See Anything.
if I were you I'd never sleep in my bedroom again! I remember when I had earwigs in my room 2 summers ago and I slept at friends or the spare room for a whole month. If I were you Id get a ton of raid and spray your room (windows open) and sleep somewhere else for a night or two... also either throw the pillow away or wash it then throw it in the dryer.
What To Eat To Repel Bed Bugs?
Since Bed Bugs Suck Blood Is Thre Enything In Our Food And Drink That When We Eat It Will Be Secreted In Our Blood And If We Are Bitten By Bed Bugs Our Own Blood Can Kill Them?
That's a good question actually.
I've had to deal with bed bugs a few times, and have even had to move.
I am one of those people who seem to attract bed bugs more so than my husband.
I would get bitten hundreds of times a night while my husband had no bites whatsoever.
To answer your question?
There is no type of food or drink that one can ingest to ward off bed bugs.
If you have bed bugs?
I strongly suggest you invest in a good mattress cover, which is specially designed to keep bed bugs out,and also prevent those trapped beg bugs from getting out.
It takes anywhere from 1 year to a year and a half to actually kill those trapped bed bugs. They die from starvation after that time....a year to a year and a half.
The specially designed mattress cover is a wonderful investment. A little costly...around $100+ for a good one. But definitely worth it.
Hope this helps.
What Do Bed Bugs Hate And What Attracts Them?
Bed bugs do not like light; however, they will go in it to feed if necessary.
They don't like anything that kills them :P.
They are attracted by carbon dioxide, and body heat.
They love any hiding place, which is a lot, especially if you have clutter
Bed Bugs!!!! Please Read, Concerned! ?
I Stayed At A Friends House Last Night And I Noticed And Itching All Over My Back I Didnt Think Anything Of It Until This Morning When I Saw These Red Mosquito Bites All Over My Body. Hands, Back, Legs, Butt, And Feet. I Looked Up Bed Bug Bites An That Is Exactly What They Look Like And There Hot To The Touch. I Was Wondering If I Need To Go See A Doctor To Have Them Look At It Or If It Will Just Go Away In Time? Also, I Took A Shower Before I Left Her House How Likely Is It That The Bugs Got Transferred To My House Because I Did Not Wash My Clothes I Slept In Before I Came To My Home? I Will Choose Best Answer!
You don't have to see a doctor for bed bug bites. If the itching is too much to bear take antihistamines and/or use steroid creams and of course TRY TO AVOID SCRATCHING THEM, because if you scratch them very much they may get infected and then you'll have to see a doctor who will probably prescribe some antibiotic.
Now, it's unfortunately very possible that the bugs got transferred to your house with your clothing, because clothing is one of the places were bed bugs live and reproduce :/...
If when you returned home you went straight and washed the clothes (preferably with hot water) you were wearing at your friend's and had another shower then the possibilities of bed bugs are a lot less...
However, if you put your clothes with other dirty clothes... then... well... that wouldn't be good at all because the bed bugs would spread literally everywhere :/...
I really hope you don't get an infestation because it's very difficult to deal with and you will need treatment by a pest-control expert...
I wish you the best of luck...
Bed Bug Bites? Or Not?
I Have About 8 Bites Altogether On My Right And Left Leg. And Theres Even One On The Bottom Of My Foot. I Just Noticed All The Bites Yesterday When That Night I Had Slept-Over A Friends House. My Friend Doesn'T Have Any Bumps Or Bites That I Have Noticed. I 4 Bites On My Upper Thigh That Are In A Shape Of A Square. Could That Be A Sign Of The &Quot;Breakfast, Lunch, And Dinner&Quot;? All The Other Bites Are By Themselves Scattered On My Legs. They Itch Sometimes, But Not All The Time. They Don'T Have A Red Dot In The Middle But Are Red And Raised. They Are Pretty Large Bumps. Could This Be Bed Bugs? Or An Allergic Reaction To Something? Or Just Mosquito Bites? P.S. I Got An Eye Infection Yesterday If That Has Anything To Do With It.
Bed bugs do not bite the bottoms of feet. When this type of reaction is seen, it is usually scabies. I've attached a resource with pictures of bed bugs bites (which have a clear center) and scabies, which is caused by mites that burrow under the first skin layer.
Bed Bugs In Hotel!!!!!?
Hi I Am A Guest Services Agent At A Hotel For Around 8 Months Now. This Morning I Just Heard That One Of Our Rooms Has Bed Bugs!! The Room Is 140 And My Front Desk Is Literally Just Across And Down The Hall From It. I Am A Little Worried Now About Putting My Purse On The Floor And Walking Into My House With My Work Clothes On.
Also My Owner And Managers Didnt Even Seem To Care. Can I Refuse To Work There Due To Bed Bugs?
Im Honestly Really Scared About Bringing Them Home.....Thats If I Haven'T Already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bed bugs only travel about 100 feet, so the risk to you is minimal. I'd just keep your purse off the floor and keep it zippered. If you are really concerned, get a big Zip Lock Big Bag and keep your purse zipped inside when you are not using it. This will keep bed bugs from getting inside.
Another option (one you should do anyway given where you work) is to spray any creases, seams and the zipper with a bed bug luggage spray (see resource). This will keep bed bugs away for 3 to 6 weeks at a time.
What Kind Of Bug Is On My Cat?
I Have An Indoor Cat. Every Spring/Summer He Gets The Same Kinds Of Bugs On Him. They Are Not Fleas. The Are About 3 Times As Big As A Flea, And A Brownish Color. We Live On A Farm, But I Don'T Know If That Is Relevant. I Don'T Think That They Are Particularly Harmful (They Don'T Appear To Bite Him), But He Sleep In My Bed And I Find It Kind Of Gross. We'Ve Tried Flee Baths And Drops, But They Always Come Ever Spring/Summer. They Responded To The Capstar Pill Last Summer If That Helps Any. Any Help Is Very Much Appreciated. It'S Been 5 Years And I Really Want This To Stop Happening.
Just one question - if your cat doesn't go out, where does he get these bugs from. It seems like they may be hibernating in your house. In general I wouldn't think you'd have the same kind of bug year after year unless they're in the house itself. I have 9 indoor cats who don't get fleas or ticks. I may bring in a tick from outside but once it's killed, there is no more. And by the way stay away from flea baths, they are extremely harmful, they are chemicals. There are better products on the market that aren't as traumatic or poisonous to cats. Whatever they are, I have a feeling, you aren't going to get rid of them with out finding out what they are and where they are coming from. Try taking one to the vet.
Bed Bugs Possibility?
So I Live In A College Dorm. I Got Back From Thanksgiving Break About 4 Days Ago, On A Sunday Night. All Day Monday, My Back And Upper Arms Were Unbearably Itchy, And When I Got Back To My Room, The Left Side Of My Face Swelled Up. I Took Some Benedryl And It Went Away, So I Dismissed It As An Allergic Reaction To Something I Ate. Wednesday Night, I Was Doing Homework In My Room, And My Arm Started To Itch, And Then A Welt Appeared.Kind Of What A Mosquito Bite Looks Like. I Went To Bed, And When I Woke Up In The Morning, I Had Welts On My Hands That Looked Like Bites, And My Legs Were Unbearable Itchy (But Didn'T Have Any Bites That I Could See). Becuase Of The Bed Bug Hype, I'Ve Been Freaking Myself Out. I'M A Clean Person, So I Hope This Isn'T From Bed Bugs. I'Ve Looked All Over My Beds And Sheets And I Haven'T Seen Any Bugs. It'S Weird, Becuase Before Break, None Of This Happened, It Was Only Until After... So Does It Sound Like I Have Bed Bugs? If I Wash All Of My Bedding, And Vacuum Will That Take Care Of Them?
having bed bugs has nothing to do with being a "clean person"
They are hard to see but since you did not have the problem before break, did you happen to get a new body wash or use a new laundry soap between then and now? Even a new shampoo could do it because if you shampoo in the shower, it gets all over your body.
Has the weather suddenly turned colder in your area? When that happens to me, I get itchy just because the heat is on and the air is dryer.
The welts sound like hives.
If you do have them, washing bedding could help but they live in the mattress.
Where Can I Find Anwsers About, What Bed Bugs Look Like?
I Live In A Oxford House, Which Is A Recovery House. Lately My Housemates And I Have Been Getting Bites About Our Bodies. I Have Found A Flat Round Bug With Legs Like A Centipede All The Way Around The Body Part Of The Insect. I Found This Insect Crawling Across My Bed.
You have to get rid of them and everything they ever came in contact with. They're nocturnal, so looking for the during the day probably won't work. They can live on wood, wallpaper, beds, furniture, etc.
Is this what they look like?
The sprays that kill the mature bed bugs usually do not kill their eggs, so you have to call in the professional bug killers to use thier heavy duty chemicals to kill the adults AND the eggs.
But you have to spray every part of the house, apartment building, on all levels otherwise you are just chasing the bugs from one room to the next to the next!

And If You Wash A Sleeping Bag, Even If It Has Holes That The Bed Bugs Can Crawl Through, Will The Bed Bugs Die?
Bed bugs are inside the walls and in the closet and they go from apartment to apartment and there are lots of eggs. Heat treatment cost a lot and it takes 120 degrees or more to kill the bugs. All the apartments need to be treated to kill the bedbugs.
Your sleeping bag can be washed in hot water and a cup of vinegar in the rinse water will kill the bugs.

OMG I HATE BED BUGS!!!!!!! I've had them living in my mattress for over a month. It sucks, doesn't it...
1:. You can kill them with your own hands
2:. Chemicals. They work most of the time
3:. Getting someone to do it for you
4:. New mattress, etc....
5:. Washing everything, making the room super hot (Or cold) That should kill a lot of them
And I think it's all I have right now, I remember having 7 ways but I guess I forgot them heh heh ^^;;
Do Bed Bugs Die When Sprayed With Raid?
And If They Do, How Long Does It Take? They Don'T Seem To Shrivel Up Like Spiders Or Go Into A Frenzy Like Cockroaches.
The RAID is not going to work.
You may end up needing an exterminator to deal with this but I think you should look at some do-it-yourself options that you can spray on your furniture including your mattress to see if it is salvagable.
There are several chemical free bedbug products available. The one that I have used is called BedBug Terminator and it is sold online by a company called Kleen-Free. It will kill the bedbugs on contact as well as their eggs. You just spray it everywhere for a few days.
You do need to be patient and persistent with this or any treatment as bedbugs hide well and can go weeks without feeding.
Also, not sure if you live in an apartment and if the bedbugs have spread or not but everyone needs to treat them and not just you - maybe you can split the cost of whatever you choose.
Bed Bugs? Please Help?
I Wold Up This Morning To A Bed Full Of Bed Bugs. How Do I Get Rid Of Them. My Brother Wants To Throw The Bed Away
Oh my, bed bugs are very hard to get rid of.
First, I suggest that you wash all of your bedding in very hot water.
You will also have to check all of your dresser drawers. Those little pests can get everywhere. You may have to wash all of your clothing.
You must also completely vacuum your room. Make sure you vacuum around all of your baseboards and your mattress. Take the vacuum outside and get rid of the dust bag inside. Clean your vacuum.
Also, get in touch with recommended pest control agency to go in and treat your mattress, bed and the entire room with a special product made to eradicate bed bugs.
You may have to do this several times as bed bugs lay eggs. That is why it is so important to vacuum. Check with your local health department for recommended pest control agencies who specialize in bed bugs.
What Can Bed Bugs Live On?
Okay I Know They Can Live In Beds, On Clothes And Everything Else But I'M An Art Student And I Have A Lot Of Sketch Pads/Paper That I Bought In Bulk For When I Have No Money Left. Do I Have To Throw Away All Of Them? And When I Mean I Bout In Bulk I Have Like Maybe 20 Sketch/Drawing/Watercolor Paper In A Closet. Not To Mention Canvas Cloth And Every Thing...
Please Answer The Bed Of Your Ability. If You Don'T Know Don'T Answer!!
Bed bugs live inside of walls, in furniture and in closets. And in carpet and along the baseboards.
They live on blood. They crawl out of their places late at night and crawl onto beds and suck blood out of humans. They do not eat paper. If, they get on paper they will ruin it by pooping and shedding their shells. And laying eggs.
Bed bugs are like having blood sucking roaches around.
Bed Bug Infestation Laws? Are They Responsible For My Damaged Furniture Or Mental Distress?
After Moving Into My Dream Loft, 5 Months Later It Became Infested With Bed Bugs, I Was Told They Originated From A Unit On The 1St Floor (I Live On The 3Rd), Point Being I (And The Bldg Mgt) Know That I Was Not The Cause. They Fumigated Once So Far But To No Avail. I Am Moving And Am Throwing Away My Bed And Brand New Couch Out Of Paranoia Of Bringing Them With Me. I Have Also Experienced Much Mental Distress From The Bites And Can No Longer Sleep Well At Night. I Think Every Little Speck I See Is A Bug. I Asked For My Security Deposit Back At The Time Of My 30 Day Notice (So I Could Use It To Move) And They Said No. I Am Not Breaking A Lease, It Was Month To Month. I Am Wondering If They Are Responsible For The Cost Of Any Of My Things?
It depends on the landlord/tenant laws of your state, but in general, the answer's probably, "no." The landlord or management company didn't cause the bugs (another neighbor did, and those are the chances you take when you live in shared space), and they are apparently trying to resolve the problem.
They will have to return your deposit (minus any damages), within the time period specified by your state, after you've completely moved, provided you met the time limits specified for notification and moving (also specified by state law).
I feel for you. It happened to me once. I slept in a sleeping bag on the floor for a month until I could save up for a new mattress. One of the ways I learned the hard way that renter's insurance is totally necessary. (And surprisingly affordable, especially if you add it to an existing policy.) This time it was "just" bugs, but your neighbors could also start a flood ... a fire ... You know?
I hope you find a better new place. Best wishes.
There'S A New Apartment We Want To Get. The Previous Owners Left About 2 Weeks Ago Because The Bed Bugs Gave Them Rashes. There Is No Furniture Left, The Apartment Is Now Completely Empty, Save The Fridge And Stove. The Landlord'S Wife Cleaned It Out, Repainted It, If That Makes A Difference. It'S Been Empty For About 2 Weeks. The Previous Owner Had Professionals Try To Exterminate Them, Twice, And It Didn'T Make A Difference. Do Bed Bugs Leave If They Have No Food Or Humans To Feed On? Will There Be Any Bed Bugs Left, Is It Safe To Move Into That Apartment? All Answers Greatly Appreciated.
Right now I'm going through that. A friend of my mom's left a couch that contained bedbugs. She moved from apartment to apartment every few months. So she must've lived in an infested one and brought them with her. The couch was right outside my bedroom so of course my room is their new home. They are not fun and they are extremely hard to get rid of. This will be the second time I had to call the exterminator. I wouldn't be surprised if I get another visit from them. They can hide just about anywhere. Cracks, bed frames, tvs, under flaps of loose wallpaper, carpet even in the fridge and stove. They can go a year without eating. No wonder the previous owner couldn't take it anymore and finally left. It can get frustrating. In 3 months you can get over 200 bites. So far I've had 40-50 and it's been about 2 months. They are probably still in that apartment and waiting for the next person to come in and feed on. It's not worth it. If you move in there, they can get into your stuff and when you move out you could bring them along with you. Too risky! Don't do it!!! I've been sleeping like a cocoon lately. In a sleeping bag and a thin blanket over my face tucked tightly.
What Are Bed Bugs, And What Do They Look Like?
Bed bugs change in appearance based on where they are in their lifecycle and before/after blood meals. They start in small white eggs that are about the size of a pin head. At birth the instars (baby bed bugs) are approx. 1/16 of an inch and have a clear/straw color. After feeding they take on a reddish appearance from the blood. They pass through 5 instar stages and then become adults in the 6th stage. They move/require a blood meal to pass from stage to stage. As an adult they are about 1/8 of an inch and take on a brown/red color. They grow in size after a blood meal.
The resource has a picture of bed bugs at each life stage before/after each blood meal.
Bed Bugs.. What Can They Do To You?
Not much in most people. Most people show no reaction to bed bug bites. Since they don't spread disease, they are not a big deal. However, in some people, about 30%, there is some type of allergic reaction to the bite. In most people reactions set in within an hour and result in some type of round red area with a clear center. They should heal in 2 to 3 days. Very allergic people can have larger skin reactions such as blistering. In rare occasions, the bites could trigger a bigger allergic reaction such as asthma.
